Memorial Day parade

Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 764 in Peters Township announces the return of its annual Memorial Day parade on May 31.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. at Peters Township Middle School, 625 E. McMurray Road, and ends in the parking lot of the VFW, 460 Valley Brook Road, where the event continues with a guest speaker and ceremony with Honor Guard.

The VFW will be open to the public, and the Matt Barranti Duo will perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Salvation Army clothing drive

The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center is collecting gently used clothing and shoes for local students in need from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 5 in the parking lot of Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, next to Mt. Lebanon Public Library.

The annual clothing drive is held in partnership with the Mt. Lebanon Police Association and Mt. Lebanon High School. Items in particular demand include children’s jeans, shorts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, sneakers, dress shoes and dress clothes in all sizes and genders.

Food drives on Montour Trail

Food drives benefiting the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and Greater Washington County Food Bank are scheduled on the Montour Trail.

Donations of nonperishable food items, paper products, household and hygiene items will be taken. Monetary donations are not accepted, nor are glass containers.

Collections are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at:

• Piney Fork Road at Wastewater Treatment Plant, South Park Township (Mile 37.8), June 5. Rain date is June 6.

• George Washington Elementary School, 515 Clifton Road, Bethel Park Branch, June 19. Rain date is June 20.

Rabies clinic

The municipality of Bethel Park will hold its annual rabies clinic from 10 a.m. to noon June 5 at the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company, 5213 Brightwood Road.

Dr. Marina Siegert of the Bethel Park Animal Clinic will administer the vaccine, a one-year rabies shot.

Residents are encouraged to bring their pets, both cats and dogs, to be inoculated. Bring proof of previous rabies vaccine with you for a three-year rabies shot at the same cost.

The fees are $10 for a rabies shot, $5 for a three-year cat license and $2 for a one-year license. For more information, call 412-831-6800, extension 102.

South Hills Coin Club

The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 8 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building located at 5100 W. Library Ave. Members and the general public are invited.

This month’s program will be the annual coin auction. A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes to be awarded. Applications are being accepted for membership. For more information, call 724-984-6611.

Summer Sing Academy

The South Hills Children’s Choir presents its first-ever Summer Sing Academy. Children ages 8 to 18 can experience vocal music with classes in harmony, a cappella singing, beat boxing, vocal technique, and more taught by the experienced SHCC faculty and expert teaching artists.

The academy takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 7-9 at View Crest Church, 883 Linden Road, North Strabane Township. Registration is $55 per student and includes a healthy boxed lunch each day. To register, visit https://shcchoir.org/singacademy.html.
