Bethel Park fall play

Performances of Bethel Park High School’s fall play, “You Can’t Take It with You,” are scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 11-13 in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Unknown Soldier remembrance

The Bethel Fife and Drum Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Bethel Park Historical Society will mark the 100th Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Schoolhouse Arts and History Center, 2600 South Park Road.

The Schoolhouse bell will be rung 21 times as part of a national salute to the veterans who lost their identity and lives in the defense of others. A “great silence” also will be observed in respect to those who have died and to those who will make a future sacrifice. The sounding of “Taps” will conclude the program.

Area churches are encouraged to help commemorate the anniversary by ringing their bells 21 times at 11 o’clock.

South Hills Coin Club

The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave., Bethel Park. All members and the general public are invited.

The program will be “bring your favorite coin.” A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes to be awarded. Applications are now being accepted for membership. For more information, call 724-984-6611.

Lensshooters Camera Club

Robert McLaughlin, a local landscape photographer, will be the guest speaker at the Nov. 10 meeting of the Western Pennsylvania Lensshooters Camera Club, scheduled for 7 p.m. at Peters Township Public Library.

His passion is the attractiveness of imbalance in photography’s good composition as a refreshing and welcome challenge. He said, “I’m reliving my youth in landscape photography and my workshops in Italy and Ireland.”

Veterans Day service

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club will hold its annual Veterans Day Memorial Service at noon Nov. 11 at the South Park Nurses War Memorials on Corrigan Drive.

All military nurses will be remembered with a wreath placed at the nurses’ monuments.

The program will include the Rev. Jon Brzek, retired U.S. Navy Command chaplain and parochial vicar at St. Joan of Arc/St. Catherine Laboure Parish; retired Army Lt. Col. Lois Shirley, a member of the Women’s Overseas Service League whose service included assignments in Vietnam and Germany; Clarence Hopson, deputy director of Allegheny County Parks; and bagpiper Bradley Wilson.

The public is welcome to attend.

Chanukah toy drive

Chabad of the South Hills’ annual Chanukah toy drive for hospitalized and underprivileged children is in progress, collecting new, unwrapped toys.

Some ideas include puzzles, games, art supplies, Legos and Duplos, dolls, play food and kitchen items, and baby toys.

Toys can be dropped off from 9:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Nov. 24 at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road, Mt. Lebanon. To make other arrangements, call 412-344-2424.

Women veterans meet

Women veterans will meet at 11 a.m. Nov. 13 at Gianna Via’s Restaurant in Whitehall. Women from all branches of service are welcomed by the Women’s Army Corps Veterans’ Association-Army Women United.

Following the business meeting, Beth Reuschel of the Pittsburgh Honor Flight Board will share information on how the program honors Pittsburgh veterans with an event-filled day in Washington, D.C., visiting memorials dedicated to their service.

The WACVA-AWU meets each month, working to find ways to help other veterans in the community. For more information, call Chris at 412-833-1452.

Woman’s Club of USC

The Woman’s Club of Upper St. Clair will host Animal Friends and Pets for Vets at the club’s Nov. 16 meeting at the Community and Recreation Center, 1551 Mayview Road.

The club will be collecting pet food and related pet items, as well as having a potluck lunch at 11:30 a.m. To make reservations by Nov. 12, call 412-833-1262.

Bethel Woman’s Club

Members of the Bethel Woman’s Club will meet Nov. 17 at the South Hills Elks Lodge, 2789 South Park Road, Bethel Park.

Jewelry sale

Church of the Atonement, 618 Washington Ave., Carnegie, has scheduled a jewelry and Christmas sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 and 20. The church will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday before reopening for a bag sale.

Masks are required.

Items for sale include pierced and clip earrings, sets of earrings with necklaces, bracelets and chains. The Christmas decorations are for inside and outside the house, and in good condition.

Joy of Christmas craft show

The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will sponsor its annual Joy of Christmas craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair.

More than 100 artists and crafters will be featured, along with a Chinese auction, and lunch and snacks will be available for purchase.

Admission is $2, which includes one ticket for Chinese auction. Masks are required. Strollers are not permitted inside of the show because of fire regulations.

Chanukah luncheon

A Chanukah seniors luncheon is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 29 at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road, Mt. Lebanon.

Art guild meeting

Bethel Art Guild will meet at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

The guest speaker is Vicki Sawyer. She received her Art degree at Penn State University, leading her to graphic design and professional mural painting. She painted hundreds of murals featuring birds, insects, plants and grasses.

Over the past 15 years, she has moved to canvas paintings of the natural world. Now with a career as a fine art painter, her library has grown to more than 2,500 paintings. Her work has been exhibited and received numerous recognitions all over the eastern United States.

Ruthfred Acres Woman’s Club

The Ruthfred Acres Woman’s Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at St. Clair Country Club, 2300 Old Washington Road, Upper St. Clair.

At the meeting, the club will be gathering gifts for a family from Bethel Park.

The club’s charity of the year is the South Hills Interfaith Movement. The club treasurer will be accepting monetary donations through March, 2022 in lieu of the annual Christmas basket raffle.
