PT LIBRARY
New hours for the Peters Township Public Library have been instituted.
The library is now open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library is closed on Sundays.
PYSO finale
The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra’s season finale will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 1 at Heinz Hall.
The event not only celebrates the PYSO season but raises fund for support scholarships for student musicians.
A reception will be held at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $75.
The program includes works by Jessie Montgomery, Mozart, Prokofiev, Debussy, and Liszt and features Emma Kim and Arjun Wasan, the respective 2022 concerto and conducting competition winners.

FLAG DISPLAY
The deadline to purchase a flag for the Friends of South Park’s memorial garden is May 6.
Flags will be displayed one week before and after the four patriotic holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day at the Joyce Kilmer Circle and near the Oliver Miller Homestead in South Park.
A donation of $10 per flag covers the entire year.

TEA TIME
A Mother’s Day Tea will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. May 7 in the parlor of the Neville House at the Woodville, 1375 Washington Pike.
Tickets are $10 per person.

ARBOR DAY
Bethel Park has declared April 29 as Arbor Day, and in recognition the community’s Shade Tree Commission will conduct a planting event at 10 a.m. in Millennium Park.
Funded by the Bethel Park/USC Breakfast Rotary and the municipality, trees to be planted include: Dura Heat Clump River Birches, Autumn Blaze Red Maples, Celebration Red Maples and Forest Pansy Redbuds. Flowers will also be planted around the park’s entrance.
SUPER NIGHT
A Superhero Night for ages 10 and under will be held at 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. May 6 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center.
Fee is $5 ($8 for non-members).

CANDLE MAKING
A teen candle-making social will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. May 4 at the Peters Township Recreation Center. Fee is $10 ($15 for non-members).

JOB OPENING
The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified adults (18 and older) for part-time front desk positions at the community and tennis centers.
Hours may include weekends and evenings as needed. Pay rate is $12.50 per hour.

FREE COMPOST
The Peters Township Public Works Department is making compost available for residents to use on their property or in their gardens.
The material is stockpiled at the baseball field parking lot in Peterswood Park. Material is to be hand-loaded only. No material may be dropped off or left on the property.
FLEA MARKET
Neighborhood Flea kicks off its ninth year at The Stacks at 3 Crossing in the Strip District of Pittsburgh.
The first marketplace events takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 8. All-day parking is available for $3 at The Hive. Flea Days continue through October.

ARTHRITIS WALK
The Walk To Cure Arthritis will be held May 22 at Boyce Park.
The event, which begins and ends at the ski lodge, is free but donations are encouraged.

Gilfillan Farm
Gilfillan Farm and its friends from Horses For Hope will participate in Upper St Clair’s community day from noon to 3:30 p.m. on May 21.
The farm will bring the inside of the house outside in its attempt to allow guests to experience all aspects of its history and legacy. The farm will also give a nod to its Scottish heritage with Scottish fiddle music. In addition to meeting the animals, there will be a chance to do some planting in the garden. Atria’s Handcrafted Catering will have food and beverages available for purchase.
TREE HAVEN SALE
The Treehaven Garden Club’s annual plant sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, at the South Park Shops, 5209 Library Road, Bethel Park.
Home-grown perennials, herbs, and houseplants will be available for purchase as well as hanging baskets from Lenik Greenhouse.

GIANT OAKS SALE
The Giant Oaks Garden Club’s 21st annual plant sale and garden market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Peters Township Public Library
The sale features a large variety of quality potted perennial plants and also features herbs, vegetables, annuals, hanging baskets and raffle baskets of gardening items.
