FENN MYSTERY

Peters Creek Historical Society welcomes Rob Throckmorton as guest speaker at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Wright’s United Methodist Church in Venetia.

Thockmorton will discuss Forrest Fenn and the mystery surrounding the treasure in cache and gold he hid and the decade-long search to find it by fortune hunters. Fenn, an 80- year-old art dealer and writer, hid a treasure worth $2 million in the Rocky Mountains.

TREASURE CHEST

Bethel Park is selling tickets for a mystery treasure chest containing over $3,300 worth of donated gift cards to businesses in and around the community.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Proceeds go toward the Splash Pad project.

Tickets can be purchased at various community events including the Farmer’s Markets, the Rev ‘Em Up Car Cruise, the Park & Play Star Party as well as community day, where the winner will be drawn on Sept. 24.

Tickets can also be purchased from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the municipal building.

COIN SHOW

The South Hill Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Bethel Park Municipal building located at 5100 West Library Ave.

Members and the general public can attend the program, which discuss colonial coins.

A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes will be awarded.

G-PARENT EVENT

A grandparent social will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Peters Township Community Center, located at 700 Meredith Drive in Venetia.

Ages 3 to 5 should bring grandparents for games and craft.

Participants must be accompanied by an adult.

FOOD TRUCKS

The Bethel Presbyterian Church, located at 2999 Bethel Church Rd., is hosting a food truck festival from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11.

In addition to food trucks, there will be live music and games.

The event is being held in conjunction with the church introducing its new contemporary service. The service begins at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

BIBLE STUDY

The Ruthfred Lutheran Church, 3401 South Park Road, Bethel Park, will begin its fall Bible study Sept. 14.

Each week from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. participants take a “Journey Through The Word” studying 1st Corinthians. Prayer, worship, lecture and small group study is included in the classes.

A children’s ministry for preschool children will be provided.

LADIES NIGHT

The Peters Township Newcomers and Neighbors Club (PTNN) will host its annual ladies night out at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Valley Brook Country Club.

The nonprofit women’s civics and service organization has served residents of the area since 1965.

The event will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and dessert as well as a cash bar, raffle baskets and a silent auction.

ROTARY BBQ

The 33rd annual Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Club chicken bbq will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Bethel Park High School.

Tickets are $15 and the price includes half of a chicken, baked beans, chips, roll, dessert and a raffle ticket with the chance to win prizes.

CRAFT SHOW

The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual “Joy of Christmas” Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Rd. in Upper St. Clair.

There will be 115 Artists and Crafters as well as a Chinese auction and 50/50 Raffle. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase.

Admission is $2 and includes one ticket for the Chinese auction.

The Chartiers Valley Class Of 1972 Reunion will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Heidelberg Fire Hall located at 456 First St. in Carnegie.

JAZZ

RML JAZZ will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at The Studio at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall on Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie.

The group features Laura Chu Wiens on vocals, Jeff Leonhardt on guitar, Gene Laus on trumpet/flugelhorn, Rick Purcell on keys, and Rick Laus on drums, and performs classic and pop styles of Jazz from artists such as Miles Davis, Chuck Mangione, Wes Montgomery, Diana Krall, Bonnie Raitt, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Grover Washington and Herb Alpert.

WALKING TOUR

The Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation will conduct a walking tour of the city’s bridges and river shores from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Aug. 23.

Meeting point is outside the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel on Sixth Street.

The tour takes a loop bounded by the north and south shorts of the Allegheny River and by two of the three sisters bridges that cross it.

Tickets are $20 per person.

Dress for weather and arrive 10 minutes before the tour starts.

CONCERT

Academy Quartet “Variations on Variations” will be presented from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 16 at Sunnyhill, 1240 Washington Rd. in Mt. Lebanon.

Members of the quartet are Jorie Butler-Geyer and Leah Givelber violins, Warren Davidson, viola, and Robin Hasenpflug, cello.

The group’s repertoire combines well-loved classics of the with rarely heard gems and attractive new works.

SHOE DRIVE

The Beth El Congregation of the South Hills is conducting a shoe drive through Oct. 6. Gently worn, used and new shoes will be collected and given to developing nations for impoverished people to start their own businesses.

Shoes can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the synagogue located at 1900 Cochran Rd.
