LEBO LIBRARY

The Mt. Lebanon Library celebrates the art and culture of China with two special programs in September.

Mimi Jong will be featured on the erhu, an ancient Chinese, two-stringed bowed instrument, in a concert to be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 14.

A lion dance performance will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 17 on the Southminster Church Manse lawn.

The lion dance incorporates elements of Chinese opera, classics of the country’s literature, Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian philosophies as well as martial arts and symbolism.

MUM SALE

Friends of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library will host a mum sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 outside the Castle Shannon Boulevard entrance of the building.

Six colors are available. Nine-inch pots sell for $10 each. Mini pumpkins and decorative straw bales will also for available.

SENIOR DRIVING

An AARP driver safety course will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 26 and 27 at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library.

SHWC MEET

The South Hills Women’s Cub will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Scott Park Lodge in Scott Township.

Chris Rodel will present a program on Arnold Palmer from Latrobe.

SHRED EVENT

A free shred-it event will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at Guardian Storage located at 2061 Milford Dr. in Bethel Park.

BP LIONS

The Bethel Park Lions Club will hold its annual fall fish fry on Sept. 16 in the pavilion at Lions Park on Irishtown Road.

Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m.

Meals include fried or baked fish or fried shrimp, fries or mac and cheese, cole slaw and a drink for $15. No baked fish or mac and cheese will be available at lunchtime. Kids’ meals are available for $5.

Proceeds benefit Lions Club charities.

FISH FRY

The Pittsburgh South Hills Lodge 2213 will hold a fish fry from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the club located at 2789 South Park Rd. in Bethel Park.

The fundraiser benefits veterans projects.

Eat-in or take-out orders are available.

BIBLE STUDY

The Ruthfred Lutheran Church, 3401 South Park Road, Bethel Park, will begin its fall Bible study Sept. 14.

Each week from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. participants take a “Journey Through The Word” studying 1st Corinthians. Prayer, worship, lecture and small group study is included in the classes.

A children’s ministry for preschool children will be provided.

FUNDRAISER

The seventh annual fundraiser for the Scheuermann’s Disease Fund will be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Alpine Club, located at 220 Alpine Rd. in Bridgeville.

Fee is $15. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

In addition to a lunch buffet, there will be a cash bar, live music, caricature artist, youth bike riding course, silent sport auction and Chinese auction.

COIN SHOW

The South Hill Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Bethel Park Municipal building located at 5100 West Library Ave.

Members and the general public can attend the program, which discuss colonial coins.

A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes will be awarded.

G-PARENT EVENT

A grandparent social will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Peters Township Community Center, located at 700 Meredith Drive in Venetia.

Ages 3 to 5 should bring grandparents for games and craft.

FOOD TRUCKS

The Bethel Presbyterian Church, located at 2999 Bethel Church Rd., is hosting a food truck festival from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11.

In addition to food trucks, there will be live music and games.

The event is being held in conjunction with the church introducing its new contemporary service. The service begins at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

ROTARY BBQ

The 33rd annual Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Club chicken bbq will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Bethel Park High School.

Tickets are $15 and the price includes half of a chicken, baked beans, chips, roll, dessert and a raffle ticket with the chance to win prizes.

TWEEN NIGHT

Ages 9-12 can attend a social from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center, located at 700 Meredith Dr. in Venetia.

The Chartiers Valley Class Of 1972 Reunion will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Heidelberg Fire Hall located at 456 First St. in Carnegie.

CONCERT

Academy Quartet “Variations on Variations” will be presented from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 16 at Sunnyhill, 1240 Washington Rd. in Mt. Lebanon.

Members of the quartet are Jorie Butler-Geyer and Leah Givelber violins, Warren Davidson, viola, and Robin Hasenpflug, cello.

The group’s repertoire combines well-loved classics of the with rarely heard gems and attractive new works.

CRAFT SHOW

The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual “Joy of Christmas” Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Rd. in Upper St. Clair.

There will be 115 Artists and Crafters as well as a Chinese auction and 50/50 Raffle. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase.

Admission is $2 and includes one ticket for the Chinese auction.
