Levy earns scholarship
Sydney Levy was the recipient of the third annual Peters Township High School Scholarship, awarded by the Peters Township Democratic Committee (PTDC).
The daughter of Todd and Leigh Levy plans to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. Levy will major in 3-D animation.
“Sydney Levy exemplifies the type of civic-minded young person our country needs for the future,” said Lara Clarke, head of the PTDC Scholarship Committee.
“Her service to our community, her understanding of the importance of political engagement, and her concern for the environment made her an outstanding choice to receive this year’s scholarship.”
Among her community volunteer activities were Operation: Face Mask, Empty Bowls, Meals on Wheels, Peters Township Clean-up Day, and the PT Pollinator Challenge.
In addition to her studies at the high school, Levy served as president of the Writing Lab and was an active member of the Art Club.
Levy was selected as the winning applicant for the PTDC scholarship based on evidence of her community involvement, future goals and vision, general character, and alignment with Democratic Party values.
The PTDC high school scholarship is funded by donations from community members and Peters Township High School alumni. It demonstrates PTDC’s commitment to education, to supporting future leaders, and to lending a helping hand to fellow citizens.
“We hope this scholarship raises the awareness among high school students about the importance of political engagement and voting in every election,” Clarke said.
“Politics and government affects their daily lives and by voting, young people can have a say in local, state, and national issues.”
