PCHS EVENT

The Peters Creek Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 23 at Wrights United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road,Venetia.

Clay Kilgore, the executive director of the Washington County Historical Society, will be the featured speaker. He will talk about the National Pike.

The first federally funded road in the United States, whose path was formed by Indian trails followed by pioneers on their way west, features iconic landmarks along its route like the stone mile posts, Searsright Toll House, Century Inn, Village of Scenery Hill, Lemonye House, David Bradford House, S Bridge and the Village of West Alexander.

The public can attend the meeting.

CHABAD EVENT

The Chabad of the South Hills will host a pre-Shavuot Ladies Night Out at 7 p.m. May 31.

“Ruth: Mother of Royalty” will be the topic. Judaic teacher and lecturer Nami Friedman is the guest speaker.

In addition, participants will make a floral arrangement, sample cheesecakes and have a chance to win prizes.

DINO TROLLEY

The Dinosaur Trolley will be featured at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum on May 21 and 22.

Ongoing activities include a scavenger hunt, a springtime craft activity, and an interactive program by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and live animals. The staff will instruct about fossils, dinosaurs and reptiles.

Rain or shine, trolleys leave every 15 minutes with the last ride leaving the platform at 4 p.m.

Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $13 for children (3-15). Children under 3 are free.

Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to departure time.

TROLLEY HOURS

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In June, July and August, summer hours will be adopted. They are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

The museum is opposite the Washington County Fairgrounds and can be found by taking Exit 41 off 1nterstate 79 and following the signs for three miles.

KETTLE BELLS

A kettle bell exercise class is being held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the South Fayette Fire Hall, located on Millers Run Road in South Fayette.

STAGE 62

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” is showing at Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall, 300 Beechwood Ave., Carnegie.

Shows are at 8 p.m. May 19-21 and at 2 p.m. May 22.

This Off-Broadway hit takes audiences to the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where they meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy: four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts.

The show features classic ’50s hits including “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” and “Lipstick on Your Collar.”

Advance tickets are $22 for adults; $17 for seniors and students as well as groups. Tickets at the door are $25 and $20.

SINGERS WANTED

The South Hills Children’s Choir is looking for members for its We’re Hawaii-bound! Sing with us shows being held June 2-4 and Aug. 24-26.

The choir offers music instruction in a fun choral community and shares its tunes around town.

Ages 8-10 need no audition but only need to register. Ages 11-18 should sign up to audition.

BERRY FEST

Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s Strawberry Festival will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. June 10 at 905 East McMurray Road, Venetia (St. David’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall).

Menu includes fried chicken, roast beef, sides and strawberry shortcake with ice cream. There will also be a bounce house, jazz band, children’s crafts and themed basket raffles.

Tickets are $12 for adults ($10 for ages 65 and older) and $5 for children, 12 and under. Dessert-only tickets are $5.

TENNIS TOURNEY

BALLET SHOW

“Fireplay” will be restaged at 4 and 8 p.m. June 4 and at 2 p.m. June at at the Andrew Carnegie Music Hall, 300 Beechview Avenue in Carnegie.

The ballet, originally stage in 1975 by Carnegie Performing Arts Center Director Monica Ryan, will be presented as part of the Let’s Dance 2022 Recital.

Tickets are available at the box office from 6 to 8 p.m. May 31 to June 3.

Tickets at the door are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors.

PT CAMPS

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department will offer the Little Medical School this summer.

The camps are STEAM-based programs intended to inspire young minds to explore the world of health care by offering hands-on activities, role-playing and interactive demonstrations.

Camps offered are: Wilderness Medical School from June 27-July 1; Future Veterinarian School from July 11-15; Future Doctor School from Aug. 1-5; and Tenn Medical School from Aug. 8-12.

FIELD DAY

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department will conduct kids field days from 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 7 or June 14 in Peterswood Park. Meet at Shelter 4.

VBS SIGN-UP

Registration is being accepted for the Berean Church’s Vacation Bible School.

The Scott Township-based church is offering Giants Will Fall, in which children, ages 4-12, learn how God helps conquer fears and overwhelming things through a variety of activities from crafts, small and large group instruction and puppets.

The school operates from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 1-3 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 4.
