PAPER SHRED

Mt. Lebanon will hold a paper shredding event for residents only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 28 at the public works facility, 1250 Lindendal Dr. Fee is $8 per box. Cash or check only accepted.

The next electronic recycling day will be held on June 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the household hazardous waste event is set for Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

GUARDS NEEDED

Mt. Lebanon is seeking lifeguards for its outdoor swim center this summer.

Pay range is $13 to $15 per hour

PT REC

Fairy Home Decor is the topic of a creative class being offered by the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department.

Ages 6 to 10 will make a magical home for garden fairies out of flower pots.

The class runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 1.

Fee is $10 ($15 for non-members). All supplies provided.

Registration deadline is May 30.

REDUCED TIX

Mt. Lebanon residents and non-residents can purchase discounted tickets for amusement parks from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the recreation department, located on the second floor of the recreation center.

Tickets are available for Kennywood, Sandcastle, Idlewild and the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Prices range from $37 to $43, with the zoo priced at $15.

FRIDAY FUN

First Fridays are back in Mt. Lebanon starting June 3. Events are held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Clearview Common. Blues guitarist Byron Nash provides the live entertainment.

Other events are planned for July 1 with the Wisdom Worldwide reggae band and Aug. 5 with the Caribbean band Azucar.

PILATES

Registration is being accepted for Pilates classes at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center.

Classes are held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Mondays or Wednesdays beginning June 13 or 15. An evening course is offered from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. Mondays.

Fees range from $42 to $54 depending upon residency. Walk-ins are welcome for a fee of $9 ($14 for non-residents.)

COIN CLUB

The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 West Library Avenue in Bethel Park. The topic will be Trade Dollars.

A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes will be awarded.

Members and the general public can attend.

Applications are now being accepted for membership.

CHABAD EVENT

The Chabad of the South Hills will host a pre-Shavuot Ladies Night Out at 7 p.m. May 31.

“Ruth: Mother of Royalty” will be the topic. Judaic teacher and lecturer Nami Friedman is the guest speaker.

In addition, participants will make a floral arrangement, sample cheesecakes and have a chance to win prizes.

BERRY FEST

Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s Strawberry Festival will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. June 10 at 905 East McMurray Road, Venetia (St. David’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall).

Menu includes fried chicken, roast beef, sides and strawberry shortcake with ice cream. There will also be a bounce house, jazz band, children’s crafts and themed basket raffles.

Tickets are $12 for adults ($10 for ages 65 and older) and $5 for children, 12 and under. Dessert-only tickets are $5.
