DIY FUN

A reindeer planter-making session will be the project during the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department do-it-yourself time at the community center. BLOOD DRIVE

An autumn blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church located on Bethel Church Road. The event benefits South Hills Interfaith Movement. To donate blood register by calling 412-209-7000 or by visiting: donateblood.centralbloodbank.org.

COOKIE SALE

The Taste of Heaven cookie sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 3 at the St. Gregory Byzantine Catholic Church located at 2005 Mohawk Road in Upper St. Clair. Participants can purchase a container and select from an assortment of homemade cookies and holiday treats. Pre-packaged containers of nut horns, apricot horns and traditional holiday specialty cookies will also be available. Cash or check will be the only acceptable methods of payments. SOUP STROLL

The Peters Creek Historical Society’s annual “Soup and Stroll” open house will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Enoch Wright House located at 815 Venetia Road. In addition to homemade soup, there will be desserts and artisan bread available as visitors stroll through the decorated house that features the mining room, textile room and Charity Wright’s bedroom. The log cabin also will be open for viewing. Cost is $10 per adult; $5 for children under 8. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

WINTER FUN

Mt. Lebanon’s Uptown Winter Market and Holiday Celebration will kick off the holidays on Washington Road on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be music, artists, makers, vendors, entertainment and all the traditional holiday elements such as the Southminster Handbell Choir and an elf hunt.

TOYS FOR TOTS

Collection boxes for the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys For Tots program have been placed at the Peters Township recreation center and public library. New, unwrapped gifts for children, from infancy to 14 years old, will be accepted until Dec. 11. Residents can also drop off donations during the community center’s holiday kickoff celebration being held Dec. 4. For further information, call 724-942-5000.

HOLIDAY MUSIC

The Dean Streator Holiday Concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Bethel Park Community Center. Among the featured entertainers will be: The Community Band South directed by Jim Bennett and Max Gonano; the Bethel Park High School Top 21 vocal group, directed by Todd Kuczawa; and the Southminster Presbyterian handbell ringers, directed by Richard Pinkerton.

HOLIDAY ART

Creative children, ages 6 to 10, can attend a mixed medium holiday art class from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center. Participants will use watercolors and pastels to craft a piece of art. Fee is $5 ($8 non-members).

BATH BOMBS

BP LIBRARY

A gingerbread workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Bethel Park Library. Participants should bring a can of icing or bag of candy to share for decorating. All other materials will be provided. All ages can participate. No registration required.

OGLEBAY TRIP

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering a one-day bus trip to Oglebay on Dec. 8. The bus departs at 12:30 p.m. and returns to the community center at 10 p.m. Tourists will visit the Wheeling Glass Museum, take a self-guided tour of the Mansion Museum, shop at the stores at The Hilltop, dine at the Wilson Lodge, then take a guided tour of the Festival of Lights. CHABAD LUNCH

A Chanukah seniors luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 21 at Chabad of the South Hills, located at 1701 McFarland Rd. in Mt. Lebanon. AARP MEETS

The AARP Chapter 3016 meets every second Thursday of the month at Unity Presbyterian Church located at 1146 Greentree Road. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.
