AUP SOCIAL

The Association of University People (AUP) will hold a coffee and conversation session at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Mediterra Cafe at 292 Beverly Road in Mt. Lebanon. RSVP to mathurkettle@gmail.com

AUP is open to ages 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates. The group meets for monthly dinners, social gatherings, concerts, picnics, and wine tastings.

IAN AID

A South Hills Movers Trailer will be located in the parking lot at the Pittsburgh South Hills Elks Lodge No. 2213 on South Park Road in Bethel Park. Items are being collected for the victims of hurricane Ian.

CHURCH TEA RETURNS

“Our Tea Is Back” is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct 15 at the Church of the Atonement, 618 Washington Ave., Carnegie.

The event will feature a dining room set with fine china, homemade crumpets and entertainment from young performers from Dance Ink.

Tickets are $35 each. Advanced tickets sales only by calling Nancy at 412-276-5636 to reserve tickets. Doors open at 12:15 p.m. so there will be time to buy auction baskets tickets and 50/50 raffle tickets. Door prizes will also be awarded.

BPWC MEET

The Bethel Woman’s Club will welcome a representative of the municipality’s historical society at its Oct. 19 meeting to be held at the South Hills Elks Lodge, located at 2789 South Park Road. Members will be brought up-to-date on all the renovations and refurbishing that occurred at the original high school. The event begins with a social gathering at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon.Call 412-831-1861 for tickets or more information. Checks for the luncheon must be received no later than Oct. 14. All South Hills women are welcome to attend.

PUMPKIN PARADE

The Mt. Lebanon Pumpkin Patch Parade will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 29 along Washington Road. The parade starts at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery and ends at Washington Elementary School.

Volunteers are needed from 10:15 a.m. to noon to dress up in the municipality’s professional mascot costumes and walk in the parade. Volunteers also needed to escort mascots along the parade route. Call 412-343-3409 or email zwolling@mtlebanon.org for details.

CHABAD EVENT

My G-d: Defining the Divine, a thought-provoking six week-course from the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute that answers the most pressing questions on perceiving, defining, and approaching G-d, begins Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Chabad of the South Hills Mt. NIGHT AT RACES

The Bethel Park Chamber of Commerce is hosting a night at the races Oct. 15 at the GGV Social Hall, located at 5311 McAnulty Road. Buffet dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Races run from 7 to 10 p.m. In addition to dinner, there will be free beer, cash bar, silent auction, a best-looking ladies hat contest and a 50/50 raffle. NURSES CLUB

The Southwestern Registered Nurses Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 18 at Hamilton Presbyterian Church in Bethel Park. Emily {span}Valko{/span}, clinical dietician at St. Clair Hospital, will offer nutrition tips. All registered nurses can attend.

GYPSY STRINGZ

The Gypsy Stringz will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall — Studio Space located at 300 Beechwood Avenue. The group will take the audience on a whirlwind tour of Eastern European culture. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. CHURCH EVENT

An Evening Journey Through the Word Begins Oct 19 and runs every Wednesday through February at the Ruthfred Lutheran Church on South Park Road in Bethel Park.

Participants will gain knowledge concerning the “31 Undeniable Prophecies of the Apocalypse” discussed in Dr. David Jeremiah’s The Book of Signs. This twelve-week evening study will look at international and cultural signs and their significance to end-time events.

The weekly gatherings begin with a forkless dinner offered from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

MUG MAKING

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering a DIY program from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Oct. 28. Participants will create their own hydro-dipped mug and learn techniques to make more projects at home. Ages 13-17 can attend. Register is required. Fee is $10 ($15 non-members). The Pittsburgh South Hills Elks 2213 will hold a trunk and treat event from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at the lodge located on South Park Road in Bethel Park.

JEWELRY SALE

Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) presents its 10th annual “gently used costume jewelry sale” from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12 at the South Park Municipal Complex located at 2675 Brownsville Road. All items are priced between $1 and $5.

Necklaces, bracelets, rings, vintage pins, holiday pins, cufflinks and tie clips are among the items for sale. Available for purchase also are scarves, scarf jewelry and children’s items. There will also be auction items and raffle baskets. Proceeds support deployed troops and displaced veterans.

SUGARPLUM SHOP

The Upper St Clair League for the Arts will operate its Sugarplum Shop and Art Gallery from Nov. 10 to 15 at its activity center located at 1770 McLaughlin Run Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday as well as 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday.

Arts and crafts designed by local artists, pottery, stained glass, fiber art, fused glass and painted gourds will be among the items to be purchased along with hand-carved saints, polymer clay, homemade soaps, jewelry, wreaths, pillows, centerpieces, purses, covered notebooks and greeting cards. An extensive gallery featuring paintings of all mediums, prints and photography will be on display.

The league was formed in 1974, and the shop dates back to the 1970s and has become one of the organization’s most successful fundraisers.

COIN CLUB

The South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Bethel Park municipal building located at 5100 West Library Ave. All members and the general public can attend. CONCERT

The Gerdan Ukrainian Ensemble – Kaleidoscope of World Music will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Sunnyhill Church, located at 1240 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. Tickets are $15 ($20 at the door).

Founded by Ukrainian professional duo Solomia Gorokhivska and Andrei Pidkivka, musicians bring the edge of melodic ideas and rhythms to capture the listener. The ensemble is named after Gerdan, a multi-colored, intricately woven beaded necklace from the Carpathian Mountains. Like this necklace of different colors and shapes, musicians create original arrangements of traditional Ukrainian folk melodies that blend the old with the new. The exclusive collection of Ukrainian authentic flutes combines with other traditional and modern instruments.

CATNIP BINGO

FosterCat Inc.’s upcoming Catnip Bingo fundraiser will be held at noon Oct. 16 at Salvatore’s on Curry Road in Baldwin.

Tickets are $45 and includes 10 bingo games (six cards to a game), hot buffet lunch including dessert and beverage. Other activities include 50/50 Raffle, strip tickets and a Chinese Auction.

CASH BASH

LifeSpan, a not-for-profit entity offering services to the 60-plus population in Southwest Allegheny County, will hold its Ca$htoberfest from 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 14 at at Salvatore’s Events and Catering on Curry Road in Baldwin. Tickets are $35 and includes two raffle tickets.

SWPRNC EVENT

The Southwestern Pennsylvania R.N. Club will hold its 30th Annual Veterans Day Program at noon Nov. 11 at the South Park Nurses War Monument on Corrigan Drive. All military nurses will be honored and a wreath will be placed at the monument. The public can attend.

CRAFT SHOW

The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual “Joy of Christmas” Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road in Upper St. Clair. There will be 115 artists and crafters as well as a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $2 and includes one ticket for the Chinese auction.

TIMELESS

AARP MEETS

The AARP Chapter 3016 meets every second Thursday of the month at Unity Presbyterian Church located at 1146 Greentree Road. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.
