Mt. Lebanon Public Library is bringing back its Jolabokaflod (Icelandic for Christmas book flood) festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19.

In Iceland, Jolabokaflod follows the book retail cycle that culminates in a nationally celebrated Christmas season of book giving to friends and family.

According to the staff, they love the idea of a “book flood,” and recognize the event with a festival for the community, and this year’s celebration promises to be more festive because the library celebrates its 90th anniversary on Nov. 15.

During the event, The Friends of Mt. Lebanon Public Library will hold its annual holiday book sale in Room A, lower level. Available will be gift-worthy books, CDs, DVDs, decorations, and other bits and baubles.

Room B, lower level, will feature a warm-up room with hot chocolate, wassail and cookies. There will be some raffle baskets as well as library swag – T-shirts, totes, book wreaths and more – for sale.

Outside, along the library driveway, will be a variety of local artists and crafter stalls selling unique handmade goods. Confirmed artists are:

n Judé Ernest – fiber art

n Jena Scheib – paintings

n Kitty Spangler – paper arts

n BJ Kruman – jewelry

n Hannah Jones – paintings

n Kathryn Carr – paper arts

n Aleta Akhtar – jewelry

n Dana Cefalo – ceramics

n Charlotte Moore – art

n Beth Hedin – weaving

n Chloe Hedin – wooded puzzles

n Karen Krieger – paper arts

On the library’s Upper Level, the John and Wendy Mackin Band will perform at 1 p.m. and the Maureen Renihan Duo at 2. Poetry readings will precede each performance.

The Children’s Storyroom will be decked out for Jolabokaflod with a special winter I SPY Tank unveiling, a winter scavenger hunt and crafts.
