CARD PARTY

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) St. Anne Division 21 is holding its annual Irish Fling card party from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 1 in St. Benedict Hall at the St. Winifred Campus, 550 Sleepy Hollow Road, Mt. CHABAD EVENTS

The Chabad of the South Hills presents Shofar at Mt. Lebanon Park at 5 p.m. Sept. 26, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, at Pavilion 2 in the Mt. Lebanon Park. Admission and fee and the event is open to the public. Register at Chabadsh.com.

A Seniors in the Sukkah event will be held at noon Oct. 12 at Chabad of the South Hills. Holiday music, special Sukkot program, lunch and raffles will be featured. Suggested donation is $5.

CRAFT SHOW

The South Park Women’s Club’s 28th annual craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Broughton Fire Hall located at 1030 Cochrans Mill Rd. Parking is available at the fire hall as well as the Nativity Church parking lots on Brownsville Road. Shuttle rides will be provided. In addition to 60 crafters, there will be chance actions, bake sale, raffles and refreshments.

RECYCLING

A glass recycling, paper shredding, drug dump event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8 at 1 Veterans Way in Carnegie. Paper shredding limit is one box. PUMPKIN FEST

The Houston Volunteer Fire Department’s Pumpkin Festival will be held Oct. 7-9. Featured will be over 175 craft and food vendors, daily entertainment with bands and dance groups, pumpkin pie eating and scarecrow contests. A parade will be held Oct. 7. Proceeds help maintain emergency vehicles and equipment as well as provide college scholarship money to a Chartiers-Houston senior. Visit: houstonpumpkinfestival.net for more details.

COIN CLUB

The South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Bethel Park municipal building located at 5100 West Library Ave. All members and the general public can attend. CLOTHES SALE

The Clothesline Sale, which features new and gently used, donated clothing, shoes, and accessories for all ages as well as books, games, and sporting goods, runs until Sept. 27 at Sewickley Academy, located at 315 Academy Ave. The event is the school’s largest fundraiser and benefits the Home and School Association’s Above and Beyond Grant program.

CONCERT

The Gerdan Ukrainian Ensemble – Kaleidoscope of World Music will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Sunnyhill Church, located at 1240 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. Tickets are $15 ($20 at the door).

Founded by Ukrainian professional duo Solomia Gorokhivska and Andrei Pidkivka, musicians bring the edge of melodic ideas and rhythms to capture the listener. The ensemble is named after Gerdan, a multi-colored, intricately woven beaded necklace from the Carpathian Mountains. Like this necklace of different colors and shapes, musicians create original arrangements of traditional Ukrainian folk melodies that blend the old with the new. The exclusive collection of Ukrainian authentic flutes combines with other traditional and modern instruments.

CATNIP BINGO

FosterCat Inc.’s upcoming Catnip Bingo fundraiser will be held at noon Oct. 16 at Salvatore’s on Curry Road in Baldwin.

Tickets are $45 and includes 10 bingo games (six cards to a game), hot buffet lunch including dessert and beverage. Other activities include 50/50 Raffle, strip tickets and a Chinese Auction.

GARDEN CLUB

Giant Oaks Garden Club will meet Oct. 6, starting at 11:15 a.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church. The program will be designed around fall, caring for tools and plants. Bob Schroedner and T.J. Snead, representatives from Evey Hardware in Bethel Park, will present the program, “Getting Prepared for Winter.”

FLU SHOTS

A senior flu shot clinic will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center.

Seasonal flu shots are available at no charge with Medicare or some commercial health coverage. Bring insurance card to appointment.

PUMPKIN ART

Creative Kids Galaxy Art Pumpkins will be offered from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center.

Ages 7 to 11 will paint pumpkins that look out-of-this world. All materials are included in the $10 fee ($15 for nonmembers). Participants should wear old clothes or a smock, as they will get messy.

FOOD FESTIVAL

St. George Orthodox Church in Bridgeville will hold its annual Mediterranean food festival Sept. 30, Oct. 1, and Oct 2. Handmade grape leaves, spinach pies, meat pies, and lady locks will be featured.

Parking is free. Seating is available indoor or outdoor as well as curbside take away available. Credit cards accepted. Online ordering is available.

COLLEGE CLUB

The College Club of Carnegie will meet Oct. 1 at Scoglio’s Restaurant located in the Foster Plaza, Building 7, on Anderson Drive. Social begins at 11:30 a.m.. Luncheon served at noon. The meeting will feature a craft demonstration and include a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle to benefit the scholarship fund.

ART MART

The Mt. Lebanon Artists’ Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct.1 and 2 in the Academy Lot (located on Academy Avenue behind The Saloon) in Mt. Lebanon.

The event will feature 65 artists and five local food trucks. The juried art festival features artists work in various mediums including 2D work, jewelry, wood, sculpture, glass, ceramics, fiber, wearables, mixed media, leather, and metal.

NUTCRACKER

Auditions for the Nutcracker will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at the at Carnegie Performing Arts Center on 500 Chestnut St.

Dancers ages 5 through adults are needed. Ages 5-12 will be seen at 2 p.m. and ages 13 and older will be reviewed at 3.

PASTA DINNER

The Bridgeville Greater Area Lions will hold a pasta dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Bridgeville VFD Chartiers Room. located at 370 Commercial St. Admission is $15. Children under 10 are free.

Dinner includes penne pasta with meatballs, salad, bread and dessert. Take-out or eat in. There will also be raffle baskets, silent auction and lottery raffle. Call 412-551-6436 for reservations by Oct. 4.

Seniors in the Sukkah will be held at noon Oct. 12 at the Chabad of the South Hills on McFarland Road. Holiday music, special Sukkoth program, lunch, Shake the Lulav and Etrog and raffles will be featured.

LifeSpan, a not-for-profit entity offering services to the 60-plus population in Southwest Allegheny County, will hold its Ca$htoberfest from 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 14 at at Salvatore’s Events and Catering on Curry Road in Baldwin. Tickets are $35 and includes two raffle tickets.

SWPRNC EVENT

The Southwestern Pennsylvania R.N. Club will hold its 30th Annual Veterans Day Program at noon Nov. 11 at the South Park Nurses War Monument on Corrigan Drive. All military nurses will be honored and a wreath will be placed at the monument. The public can attend.

CRAFT SHOW

The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual “Joy of Christmas” Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road in Upper St. Clair. There will be 115 artists and crafters as well as a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $2 and includes one ticket for the Chinese auction.
