Haunted trail highlights spooky events in Peters Township

Peters Township is getting into the spirit of the season with several Halloween events scheduled.
A terrifying escape awaits those who venture on to the haunted trail Oct. 7 and 8 in Peterswood Park. Hours are 7:30 to 10 p.m. and the trail begins at the community recreation center located on Meredith Drive in Venetia.
For brave children, ages 8 and under, a special trail adventure is set for 6 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday only. Space is limited for this event and pre-registration is required so call 724-942-5000 to reserve a time.
Fee is $5 per person. A food truck will be on site.
Ages 18 and over can get their front doors ready for Halloween by making a decoration to spice up the home at a DIY pizza pie wreath-making experience on Oct. 4 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the recreation center.
Fee is $10 ($15 for non-members).
A pumpkin decorating contest will be held for teens, ages 13 to 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at the recreation center.
Fee to participate is $10 ($15 for non-members). Registration deadline is Oct. 17.
Prizes will be awarded to the design with the most unique pumpkin. Winners will be announced Oct. 26.
The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is also conducting a scarecrow decoration contest free to residents only.
Decorations should be placed in front of the home or office and be visible from the street. Judging will be held Oct. 26 and winners announced Oct. 28.
