AUP SOCIAL

AUP is open to ages 50 and older who are four-year college graduates. The group meets for monthly dinners, social gatherings, concerts, picnics, and wine tastings.
ART SHOW
A fall art show will run from Oct. 7-16 throughout the first floor of The Galleria Mall in Mt. Lebanon. Show hours are 10 a.m to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
South Arts Pittsburgh, Whitehall, McMurray Art League, Bethel Park Art League, Primary Colors, and Photo Section will be participating.
In addition to a variety of original works and photography by local artists, cards and matted prints will also be available.

MONTOUR TRAIL
The Friends of the Montour Trail in Bethel Park will conduct its annual (Penny Day) collection of donations from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 8. There will be three collection sites: Limestone Road at the trail crossing, Clifton Road by Washington School, and Irishtown Road by the trail parking lot.
The Montour Trail is a volunteer organization with no income from tax sources. Donations are used for mowers, power saws, repairs, fuel, and other necessary expenses.
FLEA MARKET
The Friends of the Castle Shannon Library will hold its fall flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in the lower level community room of 3677 Myrtle Ave. The market includes food, a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle. The kitchen is sponsored by Willow Station Bar and Restaurant. Admission and parking are free.
BP ROTARY
The Rotary Club of Bethel Park’s annual spaghetti dinner will be held Oct. 8 at the Bethel Park Community Center, located on Park Avenue. Eat-in dining is from 1 to 6 p.m. while drive-thru take-out is available from noon to 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the dinner, Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle benefit Life Changing Service Dogs, a local organization that provides a Pittsburgh campus to train service dogs in memory of Bonnie Pierce.
GIANT OAKS
The Giant Oaks Garden Club will meet at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 6 at St David’s Episcopal Church in McMurray. Bob Schroedner and T.J. Auditions for the Nutcracker will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at the at Carnegie Performing Arts Center on 500 Chestnut St.
Dancers ages 5 through adults are needed. Ages 5-12 will be seen at 2 p.m. and ages 13 and older will be reviewed at 3.

PASTA DINNER
The Bridgeville Greater Area Lions will hold a pasta dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Bridgeville VFD Chartiers Room, located at 370 Commercial St. Admission is $15. Children under 10 are free.

FRIGHT NIGHT

VIRTUAL VISIT
A Zoom conversation with filmmaker Lisa Hurwitz will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Hurwitz will share experiences and anecdotes about her documentary, The Automat, America’s original and beloved restaurant chain. Film historian Elaine Wertheim and librarian Eric Meisberger moderate the question and answer session that can be attended in person or virtually. Registration is required.
MUG MAKING
The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering a DIY program from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Oct. 28. Participants will create their own hydro-dipped mug and learn techniques to make more projects at home. Ages 13-17 can attend. Register is required. Fee is $10 ($15 non-members). AARP MEETS
The AARP Chapter 3016 meets every second Thursday of the month at Unity Presbyterian Church located at 1146 Greentree Road. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served. Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) presents its 10th annual “gently used costume jewelry sale” from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12 at the South Park Municipal Complex located at 2675 Brownsville Road. All items are priced between $1 and $5.
Necklaces, bracelets, rings, vintage pins, holiday pins, cufflinks and tie clips are among the items for sale. Available for purchase also are scarves, scarf jewelry and children’s items. There will also be auction items and raffle baskets. Proceeds support deployed troops and displaced veterans.

SUGARPLUM SHOP
The Upper St Clair League for the Arts will operate its Sugarplum Shop and Art Gallery from Nov. 10 to 15 at its activity center located at 1770 McLaughlin Run Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday as well as 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday.
Arts and crafts designed by local artists, pottery, stained glass, fiber art, fused glass and painted gourds will be among the items to be purchased along with hand-carved saints, polymer clay, homemade soaps, jewelry, wreaths, pillows, centerpieces, purses, covered notebooks and greeting cards. An extensive gallery featuring paintings of all mediums, prints and photography will be on display.
The league was formed in 1974, and the shop dates back to the 1970s and has become one of the organization’s most successful fundraisers.
CRAFT SHOW
The South Park Women’s Club’s 28th annual craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Broughton Fire Hall located at 1030 Cochrans Mill Road. Parking is available at the fire hall as well as the Nativity Church parking lots on Brownsville Road. Shuttle rides will be provided. In addition to 60 crafters, there will be chance actions, bake sale, raffles and refreshments.
RECYCLING
A glass recycling, paper shredding, drug dump event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8 at 1 Veterans Way in Carnegie. Paper shredding limit is one box. PUMPKIN FEST
The Houston Volunteer Fire Department’s Pumpkin Festival will be held Oct. 7 to 9. Featured will be over 175 craft and food vendors, daily entertainment with bands and dance groups, pumpkin pie eating and scarecrow contests. A parade will be held Oct. 7. COIN CLUB
The South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Bethel Park municipal building located at 5100 West Library Ave. All members and the general public can attend. CONCERT
The Gerdan Ukrainian Ensemble – Kaleidoscope of World Music will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Sunnyhill Church, located at 1240 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. Tickets are $15 ($20 at the door).
Founded by Ukrainian professional duo Solomia Gorokhivska and Andrei Pidkivka, musicians bring the edge of melodic ideas and rhythms to capture the listener. The ensemble is named after Gerdan, a multi-colored, intricately woven beaded necklace from the Carpathian Mountains. Like this necklace of different colors and shapes, musicians create original arrangements of traditional Ukrainian folk melodies that blend the old with the new. The exclusive collection of Ukrainian authentic flutes combines with other traditional and modern instruments.

CATNIP BINGO
FosterCat Inc.’s upcoming Catnip Bingo fundraiser will be held at noon Oct. 16 at Salvatore’s on Curry Road in Baldwin.
Tickets are $45 and includes 10 bingo games (six cards to a game), hot buffet lunch including dessert and beverage. Other activities include 50/50 Raffle, strip tickets and a Chinese Auction.

SWPRNC EVENT
The Southwestern Pennsylvania R.N. Club will hold its 30th Annual Veterans Day Program at noon Nov. 11 at the South Park Nurses War Monument on Corrigan Drive. All military nurses will be honored and a wreath will be placed at the monument. The public can attend.
CRAFT SHOW
The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual “Joy of Christmas” Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road in Upper St. Clair. There will be 115 artists and crafters as well as a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $2 and includes one ticket for the Chinese auction.
