PETERS CREEK

Vince Ciaramella will be the featured guest speaker at the Peters Creek Historical Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. April 24 at Wrights United Methodist Church, 788, Venetia Rd. Ciaramella will explore the 1911 “Vin Fiz Flyer,” an early Wright brothers Model EX Pusher biplane, whose journey was the first aircraft to fly coast to coast across the country. He will also discuss how “Vin Fiz,” a five-cent, grape drink helped finance it.

PARK PARTY

The second party in the park, benefitting the South Park Theatre, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. April 29. Tickets are $40 for adults, $5 for ages 4 to 12. Visit www.SouthParkTheatre.com or visit the box office to purchase tickets.

PARK RENTALS

The Rolling Hills park shelters can be reserved for dates starting May 1. Peters Township residents can reserve shelters up to six months prior to requested date; non-residents, two months prior. Requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis and will not be held until form and payment are received. Call 724-942-5000 with any questions or to check availability.

COLLEGE CLUB

The College Club of Carnegie will meet May 6 at Scoglio’s Restaurant, 661 Andersen Dr. in Foster Plaza, Building 7. A social will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The “Merry Music in May” theme will be highlighted with a performance by The Palastro Family, a button box group. Women with post-secondary degrees can attend. CLEAN UP

A spring wetlands walk and cleanup event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. April 29 along Galley Road in North Strabane. The Upper Chartiers Creek Watershed Associations will conduct an educational and environmental stewardship program led by Jason Kilgore, from Washington & Jefferson College. PLANT SWAP

The Peters Township library will host a plant swap from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 1. Outdoor and indoor plants can be traded. All plants must be labeled and individually potted. Registration is required. PUZZLE RACE

The Peters Township library is conducting a puzzle competition where 10 teams will battle to build a 500-piece jigsaw in the fastest time. The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 6. Registration is required. Email Sydney at skrawiec@pt-library.org or call 724-942-9430, ext. 3260.

FLEA MARKET

A flea market featuring 70 tables of goods will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at St. Valentine Church, 2710 Ohio St., Bethel Park. A lunch and bake sale will be available. Tables are available at $20. For information, call Sandy, 412-915-4000.

CRAFT SHOW

The Venetia Heritage Society spring craft show will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29 at the community center, located at 800 Venetia Road. Admission is free.

SHRED EVENT

A shredding event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon April 29 in the McMurray Elementary School parking lot in Peters Township. Each vehicle can dispose of a maximum of three boxes or bags of paper-based materials. Call 877-267-5222 for more information.

5K BENEFIT

The 16th annual Carnegie Volunteer Fire and Rescue Bureau’s 5K run and walk will be held at 8 a.m. April 29 beginning at the borough building at 1 Veterans Way. SNOW WHITE

The classic children’s ballet Snow White will be performed at 7 p.m. April 28 and 2 p.m. April 30 at the Andrew Carnegie Music Hall, located at 300 Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie. Allison Platt of Carnegie portrays young Snow White while Anna Wilcox of Scott Township will dance the role of Snow White at age 16. The part of the evil queen will be portrayed by Shelby Self, who is a senior at Seton La Salle. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. JEWISH FAITH

KIDS CHOIR

The South Hills Children’s Choir will celebrate 10 seasons of song with a celebratory concert at 5:30 p.m. May 6 at Faith Lutheran Church in Upper St. Clair. Music by G.P. Telemann, Brahms, Mozart, Kabalevsky, and Barber will be featured. The event will also include food, games, live auction, and raffle baskets. JAZZ FEST

PLANT SALE

The Treehaven Garden Club will hold a plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon May 13 at the South Park Shops (in front of Rite Aid), 5209 Library Road in Bethel Park. Hanging flower baskets, potted perennials and bulbs will be available for purchase.

GARDEN MART

The Giant Oaks Garden Club’s annual plant sale and garden market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 20 at the Peters Township Public Library, located on East McMurray Road. In addition to a variety of potted perennial plants, herbs, vegetables, annuals and hanging baskets will be available for purchase. There will also be raffle baskets with gardening items as well as club members, many of whom are Master Gardeners, available to assist and answer questions. The Peters Township Recreation Department is offering Feathers and Fur, part of the Homeschool Explorers program, for ages 6 to 10, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. April 28 at the community center, located on Meredith Drive in McMurray.
