AUP EVENTS

The Association of University People (AUP) is an organization for singles 50 and up who are four-year college graduates. The group has the following activities planned for May:

LEBO REC

The Mt. Lebanon outdoor tennis courts open May 1. Court time can be reserved up to one week in advance and time slots are 60 minutes each. Prices begin at $20. Additionally, tennis and swim center season passes are on sale. Visit www.mtlebanon.org for more details.

PT REC

The Peters Township Recreation Department is offering the following programs:

n Succulent Planters: from 6 to 7 p.m. May 2 for ages 13-17. Teens will learn how to care for and learn about water-wise plants. Fee is $8 ($12 nonmembers).

n Hike Around The Lake from 10 to 11:45 a.m. May 5 for ages 18 and over at Peters Lake Park.

n Teen rec night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 17 for ages 13-16 at the recreation center. There will be organized gym games and refreshments. Fee is $5 ($10 nonmembers).

n Red, White & Blue Day from 2 to 3 p.m. May 18 for ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult. This fun and patriotic event honors Memorial Day. Fee is $5 ($10 nonmembers) per child.

WOODVILLE TEA

The annual Woodville Mother’s Day Tea will be held at 2 p.m. May 13 at the historical site, located at 1375 Washington Pike.. RUMMAGE SALE

Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish will hold its New 2 U Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6 at St. Pius X Hall on the campus of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church located at 1 Grove Place. Admission is $5 per person. All items are cash-only. There will be a large assortment of antiques and collectibles along with jewelry, household items, toys, games, puzzles, tools and holiday decor. WACOM MEETS

The Washington Amateur Communications group (WACOM) will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 4 in Room 104 of the Washington County Building, located at 100 Beau St. The meeting explores innovative approaches to radio operation, and WACOM assists area charities, the National Weather Service storm spotting group SKYWARN, and Washington emergency services in supplying critical communication support. NEWSIES

Ave Maria Academy will perform Disney’s “Newsies Jr.” at 1 and 5 p.m. May 6 at Seton Lasalle Catholic High School, located at 1000 McNeilly Rd. The 60-minute musical is based on the 1992 Disney film “Newsies” and the 2012 Broadway production. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased by visiting avemariapgh.org or calling 412-341-5444.

COIN CLUB

The South Hill Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 9 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, located at 5100 West Library Ave. German notgeld coins will be the topic of discussion. Call 724-984-6611 for more information.

FLOWER SALE

The Bethel Park Interact Club will hold a Mother’s Day flower sale from 8 a.m. to noon on May 13 at the high school stadium. All sales are cash or check (written to the BPHS activities fund).

ELKS DINNER

Pittsburgh South Hills Elks Lodge 2213, located on South Park Road in Bethel Park, will hold its fundraising spaghetti dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. May 20. Tickets are $10. Bill and Karen Shepherd will play classic hits from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 412-831-0616 for reservations, tickets or more details.

WIDOW CARE

Peters Creek Baptist Church, located on Library Road in Bethel Park, is offering a program for widows from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 3. PARK RENTALS

The Rolling Hills park shelters can be reserved for dates starting May 1. Peters Township residents can reserve shelters up to six months prior to requested date; non-residents, two months prior. Requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis and will not be held until form and payment are received. Call 724-942-5000 with any questions or to check availability.

COLLEGE CLUB

The College Club of Carnegie will meet May 6 at Scoglio’s Restaurant, 661 Andersen Dr. in Foster Plaza, Building 7. A social will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The “Merry Music in May” theme will be highlighted with a performance by The Palastro Family, a button box group. Women with post-secondary degrees can attend. PLANT SWAP

The Peters Township library will host a plant swap from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 1. Outdoor and indoor plants can be traded. All plants must be labeled and individually potted. Registration is required. PUZZLE RACE

FLEA MARKET

A flea market featuring 70 tables of goods will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at St. Valentine Church, 2710 Ohio St., Bethel Park. A lunch and bake sale will be available. Tables are available at $20. For information, call Sandy, 412-915-4000.

JEWISH FAITH

KIDS CHOIR

The South Hills Children’s Choir will celebrate 10 seasons of song with a celebratory concert at 5:30 p.m. May 6 at Faith Lutheran Church in Upper St. Clair. Music by G.P. Telemann, Brahms, Mozart, Kabalevsky, and Barber will be featured. The event will also include food, games, live auction, and raffle baskets. JAZZ FEST

PLANT SALE

The Treehaven Garden Club will hold a plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon May 13 at the South Park Shops (in front of Rite Aid), 5209 Library Road in Bethel Park. Hanging flower baskets, potted perennials and bulbs will be available for purchase.

GARDEN MART

The Giant Oaks Garden Club’s annual plant sale and garden market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 20 at the Peters Township Public Library, located on East McMurray Road. In addition to a variety of potted perennial plants, herbs, vegetables, annuals and hanging baskets will be available for purchase. There will also be raffle baskets with gardening items as well as club members, many of whom are Master Gardeners, available to assist and answer questions.
