DRUG SAFETY

The Peters Township Library will host Medication Safety: Vitamins, Supplements and What One Should Know at 6:30 p.m. July 19. Dr. Frank M. GLASS ART

The Bridgeville Public Library will host a pop-up art exhibition from July 21 through Aug. 19. The display will feature glass sculptures and mosaics as well as pieces from the Bridgeville’s Historical Society’s Higbee Glass Collection. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. July 21. Regular library hours are: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library is closed on Sunday.

POMPEII

The Passport Club at the Peters Township Library will host a program on Pompeii with an archaeologist from 11 a.m. to noon July 20. While exploring the ancient city and its ruins from the comfort of the library, adults (recommended 55 and up) will visit the City Gate and walls, Roman thermopolium (fast food), Basilica, Temple of Venus, Forum (Main Roman Square), Temple of Jupiter, Main Roman Road, and Roman Market with virtual tour guide Beeyonder. CRAFT EVENT

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation’s Creative Kids program for ages 7 to 11 will use the sun and science to make crafts from 3 to 4:15 p.m. July 21 at Shelter C in Rolling Hills Park. PLAN AHEAD

A family preparedness class will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 25 at the Peters Township Public Library, 616 East McMurray Road. The presentation covers the importance of documenting and capturing your or a loved one’s life’s work and legacy. Chuck O’Neill of Executor Services will educate on the components needed to get an accurate plan in place for transitions and why it is crucial to get started immediately. PT SENIORS

The Dr. Zoot Duo will perform jazz and pop music at 10 a.m. July 27 in Peterswood Park as part of the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department’s senior series. Mature adults should also mark their calendar for Aug. 31 when The Keystone Chorus will perform a cappella, barbershop-style tunes.

As part of the senior picnic program, an ice cream social will be held Aug. 9 where Zacharia Brown will deliver a beginner’s guide to estate and long-term care planning. A cowboy picnic will be held Sept. 13. Picnics are held from noon to 2 p.m. at Shelter 4 in Peterswood Park.

CHABAD BBQ

The Chabad of the South Hills will hold its annual summer barbecue at 5 p.m. July 30 at the Walnut Pavilion in Scott Park. There will be life-size lawn games, crafts, bubbles, toddler fun, music, food and drink. Tickets are $15 per adult or $40 per family. RSVP to chabadsh.com/summerbbq by July 25.

HARRY POTTER

A Harry Potter trivia night will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 31 at the Peters Township Library, located on East McMurray Road.

CAMPFIRE TALES

The South Fayette Library, located on Millers Run Road, will host Campfire Tales about Ghosts and Other Strange Happenings from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9. FIELD DAY

FISHING DERBY

A fishing derby for grades K-5 will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 19 at Peters Lake Park. Fee is $5 ($10 nonresidents). Registration is required. Deadline is Aug. 18. Prizes will be awarded for first, biggest, smallest and most fish. There will be giveaways and treat bags.

OPEN HOUSE

The Carnegie Performing Arts Center will hold an open house from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at its studio located at 500 Chestnut St. in Carnegie. Sample dance class will be offered at 1:30 p.m. for ages 2 to 4, at 2 p.m. fairytale characters visit, and dance classes will be offered at 2:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 7. At 3 p.m., there will be a student performance and at 3:30 p.m., a sample dance class for ages 8 to 10.

Signups for the fall semester will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 and Aug. 16 as well as from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

The Carnegie Performing Arts Center offers a full schedule of dance classes including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, modern, acting, competition, musical theater and piano lessons. There are also opportunities to participate in four full productions: the Nutcracker in December, the children’s play, Alice in Wonderland, in March, the ballet, Madeline, in April and the school recital in June.

CHESS CLUB

Chess Dynamics & Winning Strategies are discussed with champion and grandmaster Pete Vuljanic on the second Wednesday of the month at the Peters Township Library. STAMP CLUB

POOL PARTY

A back-to-school pool party will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Mt. Lebanon outdoor swim center. Middle school students can attend. Fee is $8 with online registration at mt.lebanon.org or $10 at the door. Adult volunteers with clearances are needed to chaperone.

PUBLIC SKATE

The Mt. Lebanon indoor ice skating rink conducts weekend sessions throughout the summer. Times are 7:10 to 9 p.m. Fridays; 2:10 to 4 p.m. and 7:10 to 9 p.m. Saturdays, and 2:10 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The rink is located in the recreation center, located off Cedar Boulevard.

SUMMER CAMPS

Registration is being accepted for Mt. Lebanon’s chess camp and art camp, titled Pirates and Mermaids. Chess camp is offered from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 7-11 and art camp, for grades K-6, is held July 31-Aug. 4. Visit mtlebanon.org/parks-recreation/ to register.

The Chabad of South Hills in Mt. Lebanon will explore the Hebrew month of AV-Year of Hakhel during Rosh Chodesh at 11:30 a.m. July 19. Fee is $15. CAR SHOW

The Steel Town Corvette Club’s 42nd annual All-Chevy Show will be held July 30 at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 370 Commercial Dr. Sponsored by Colossi Chevrolet, the event begins at 9 a.m. with registration and ends with the trophy presentation at 2:30 p.m. Judging is held between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Advance registration is $15 by July 23 but $20 the day of the show. Spectator admission is free. There will be T-shirts given away to the top 150 entrants, 50/50 raffle, dash plaques, goodie bags, Chinese auction and door prize, plus food, refreshments and a DJ. The third annual Always B Smiling 5K will be held July 23 on the Montour Trail in Peters Township, near the TAR Outdoor Storage. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the race starting at 9:15. The Keynotes Music Scholarship luncheon and fashion show will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at South Hills Country Club. The ladies guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual flea market “Timeless Treasures” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 21, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22, in the LeGras Parish Center (lower level), 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair. Sale items will include jewelry, gently used children’s clothing to size 6, toys, decorative items, knick-knacks, kitchen items, holiday decorations, linens, tools, books, some furniture and much more. There will also be a boutique offering better quality items.
