The Heritage Players will perform The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe August 11-13 at the Seton Center, located on Pioneer Avenue in Brookline. FIDDLER TRYOUTS
The Heritage Players will hold auditions for Fiddler on the Roof from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 18 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Seton Center, 1900 Pioneer Ave. Tryouts are also available online. Performance dates are November 10-12 and 17-19.

CARNEGIE MUSIC

The South Fayette Library, located on Millers Run Road, will host Campfire Tales about Ghosts and Other Strange Happenings from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9. As part of the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department’s senior series, an ice cream social will be held Aug. 9 where Zacharia Brown will deliver a beginner’s guide to estate and long-term care planning. A cowboy picnic will be held Sept. 13. Picnics are held from noon to 2 p.m. at Shelter 4 in Peterswood Park. OPEN HOUSE
The Carnegie Performing Arts Center will hold an open house from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at its studio located at 500 Chestnut St. in Carnegie. Sample dance class will be offered at 1:30 p.m. for ages 2 to 4, at 2 p.m. fairytale characters visit, and dance classes will be offered at 2:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 7. At 3 p.m., there will be a student performance and at 3:30 p.m., a sample dance class for ages 8 to 10.
Signups for the fall semester will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 and Aug. 16 as well as from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

The Carnegie Performing Arts Center offers a full schedule of dance classes including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, modern, acting, competition, musical theater and piano lessons. Our Flag Was Still There will be the topic at the Peters Township Library, located on East McMurray Road, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16. The program will detail the 200-year journey of the original Star Spangled Banner from Fort McHenry in 1814, when Francis Scott Key first saw it, to the Smithsonian in 2023.
Cemeteries and Tombstones will be the library’s topic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10.

A fishing derby for grades K-5 will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 19 at Peters Lake Park. Fee is $5 ($10 nonresidents). Registration is required. Deadline is Aug. 18. Prizes will be awarded for first, biggest, smallest and most fish. There will be giveaways and treat bags.
