COMPOSTING

The Peters Township Public Library will offer Composting 101 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 27 at 616 East McMurray Road. Learn to turn kitchen scraps and yard trimmings into compost that is used to add nutrients, retain moisture and encourage growth of beneficial micro-organisms for the garden as well as reduce landfill waste and emissions of greenhouse gases. MINI CAMP

A jewelry mini camp for ages 6-12 will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 5-7 at the Petes Township Recreation Center. Campers explore colors and learn about design theories while working with dyes, beads and repurposed materials. Fee is $172 ($258 nonmembers). PASSPORT CLUB

BOOK SALE

The Bethel Park Lions Club will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, in the pavilion at Lions Park on Irishtown Road. Donations of used books will be collected at the park on July 5 and 6. Books can be left in the pavilion if no one is in attendance.

BASEMENT SALE

First United Methodist Church, located at 213 E. Pike St. in Houston, will hold its annual basement sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 30 and July 1.

CHURCH FAIR

The Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish will hold its summer fest from July 26 to 29 on the grounds of St. Thomas A’ Becket Church. Volunteer workers are needed. Call 412-755-2046 for more details.

MEMBER DRIVE

The Association of University People (AUP) invites singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include monthly dinners, social gatherings, concerts and day trips. Those interested can attend three activities as guests before joining. BOWER HILL VBS

The Bower Hill Community Church will hold a Vacation Bible School from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 31 to Aug. 4. Preschool (must be toilet-trained) through second grade attend as campers while third grade and up can volunteer. The theme is Mars and Beyond as attendees explore God’s love. CHABAD LUNCH

The Chabad of the South Hills, located on McFarland Road in Mt. Lebanon, will hold a senior lunch and carnival at noon July 12. In addition to a picnic-style lunch, there will be interactive games and a presentation by Comfort Keepers on staying active on hot summer days. Suggested donation is $5. RSVP to 412-278-2658.

FLEA MARKET

The ladies guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will hold its annual flea market “Timeless Treasures” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 21, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22, in the LeGras Parish Center (lower level), 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair. Sale items will include jewelry, gently used children’s clothing to size 6, toys, decorative items, knick-knacks, kitchen items, holiday decorations, linens, tools, books, some furniture and much more. There will also be a boutique offering better quality items. Due to fire restrictions, strollers are not permitted inside the center.

SUMMER CAMP

PT SENIORS

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department offers the following activities for senior citizens:

n Music Mornings at 10 a.m. at the outdoor amphitheater in Peterswood Park. Senior citizens enjoy light breakfast options as they listen to Tim & Stacy on June 29; Dr. Zoot Duo on July 27 and The Keystone Chorus on Aug. 31.
