BOOK SALE

The Community Library of Castle Shannon will hold its spring book sale from 2 to 7:30 p.m. March 16; from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 17, and from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 18. The sale will be held in the lower level of the library, located at 3677 Myrtle Ave.

JAZZ

A musical journey exploring songs and stories about the great women of jazz will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 16 at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, located at 123 E Main St. in Carnegie. Tickets range between $10 and $15. Email matthewsh@einetwork.net or call 412-276-3456 for details.

5K RUN

The Shamrock Shuffle will be held March 19 at Scott Park in Scott Township. The timed 5K race begins at 8:45 a.m. with the fun run/walk following at 9:30. Entry fees are $30 per adult, $20 for children and $85 for families. Proceeds benefit Ave Maria Academy. The event will feature a sunrise service Mass at 7:30 a.m., food trucks, face painting and other family fun. REUNION

The Allentown and St. George Reunion will be held at 4 p.m. on April 23 at the historic Linden Grove Nightclub in Castle Shannon. All are invited to join parishioners, alumni, family and friends of the former St. George church and school as well as St. John Vianney for fellowship, dinner, door prizes and raffles. SHWC MEET

The South Hills Women’s Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. March 14 at the Scott Park Lodge in Scott Township. Jack Puglisi presents a short introduction into the life of Queen Elizabeth. COIN CLUB

The South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. March 14 at the Bethel Park Municipal building located at 5100 West Library Ave. The public is welcome. RUTHFRED CLUB

The Ruthfred Acres Woman’s Club will meet March 14 at the Crowne Plaza South Hotel, 164 Fort Couch Rd. in Bethel Park. Lunch is at noon. PT LIBRARY

A Pysanky Egg Demonstration will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 23 at the Peters Township Libary. Michael Yanchak will discuss the history and significance of the traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs and briefly demonstrate decorating techniques. Registration is required at ptlib.org/pysankydemo.

PT RECREATION

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following events this month:

n Signs of Spring for ages 6-10 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. March 23. Participants explore Peterswood Park to observe signs of the season. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The inclusive program is offered for homeschool and cyberschool students. Fee is $5 ($8 non-members).

n Teen DIY Sugar Scrub for ages 13-17, from 7 to 8 p.m. March 22. Teens make their own personal sugar scrub to help exfoliate skin after the cold winter months. Fee is $10 ($15 non-members).

n Flower Power for ages 6-10 from 10 to 11 a.m. March 25. Participants create floral crafts out of bubbles and tissue paper. Fee is $5 ($10 non-members).

n Instagram 101 for ages 55 and older from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 21. Participants learn about the app and should bring a phone, computer or tablet for assistance. Fee is $5 ($8 non-members).

n Easter Bath Bombs for ages 18 and over from 6 to 7:15 p.m. March 21. Fee is $10 ($15 non-members).

All programs are held at the recreation center located at 700 Meredith Dr. in Venetia.

TANGO EVENT

Sunnyhill Church, located on Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon, will present Todo Tango at 7:30 p.m. March 24. Argentine native mezzo-soprano Ada Lis Jimena and Pittsburgh’s pianist Tom Roberts along with violinist Warren Davidson will be featured. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. SP THEATRE

Auditions are being held for children for the summer season at the South Park Theatre. Ages 6-18 are eligible. There will be five productions: Rats (June 12-21); The Spell of Sleeping Beauty (June 26-July 5); Through the Looking Glass (July 10-19); Little Red Robinhood (July 24-Aug 2) and Cinderella Caterpillar (Aug. 7-16). ORCHID SHOW

The Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania will host its annual show and sale on March 18 and 19 at the Crowne Plaza South Hotel, 164 Fort Couch Rd. in Bethel Park. The show opens at 9 a.m. and features displays of blooming orchids grown by local society members as well as a sales area with regional and foreign orchid vendors. Free educational seminars will be offered throughout both days. Bring your orchid plant for free growing tips and have your orchid repotted for a nominal fee. Admission is $5. CRAFTERS CALL

ROTARY

The Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Breakfast Club will hold a “Discover Rotary” event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 16 from 6:30-8 pm at the Bethel Park Schoolhouse Arts & History Center. Guests will be served light appetizers and cocktails while touring the center and helping pack “personal care kits” for Global Links. They can also learn how the 110-year-old Rotary International unites neighbors to help solve world problems. SUMMER CAMP

Counselors are needed for the Peters Township summer day camp, scheduled for the weeks of July 10 through Aug. 14. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Counselors works approximately 12-20 hours per week for a pay rate of $10.50 per hour.
