CHABAD BBQ
Chabad of the South Hills will celebrate Lag BaOmer with a community barbecue beginning at 5 p.m. May 9. Tickets are $18 per person and $36 per family. The holiday, which celebrates Jewish united, marks the joyous end of the plague more than 2,000 years ago as well as the passing of the great sage and mystic Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. Dozens of Jewish community members from across the South Hills are expected to gather for the meal, which includes flame-grilled kosher burgers, hot dogs, sales, drinks and s’mores. SHW CLUB

PT REC
The Peters Township Recreation Department is offering the following programs:
n Ladies night for ages 18 and over from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 10. Participants will make a farmhouse-style tiered tray to display in the home. Fee is $15 ($20 for nonmembers).
n Jiu-jitsu for ages 7 to 12 from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. and for ages 13-17 from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays. Fees are $120 ($180 for nonmembers).
n Teen rec night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 17 for ages 13-16 at the recreation center. There will be organized gym games and refreshments. Fee is $5 ($10 nonmembers).
n Red, White & Blue Day from 2 to 3 p.m. May 18 for ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult. This fun and patriotic event honors Memorial Day. Fee is $5 ($10 nonmembers) per child.
n Friday Night Flicks beginning at dusk at the Peterswood Park amphitheater. Features are: “Sonic2” on May 19; “The Mighty Ducks” on June 9, “Minions” on July 14; “Top Gun” on July 28; “Puss In Boots” on Aug. 11; “Cruella” on Sept. 8 and the double-feature of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Friday The 13th” on Oct. 13.
n Mayflowers for ages 3-5 from 4 to 5 p.m. and ages 6-10 from 6 to 7 p.m. on May 23 at shelter 4 in Peterswood Park. Participants explore the park for flowers and learn about things plants need to grow.

PT SENIORS
The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department offers the following activities for senior citizens:
n Picnics held the second Wednesday of each month from noon to 2 p.m. at Shelter 4 in Peterswood Park. The events include a speaker or interactive activity as well as hot dogs and hamburgers. Guests should bring a covered dish or dessert to share. Herb gardening is the topic on May 10 and musician Matt Tichon will be featured June 14.
n Trivia Mania from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 23. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers).
n Music Mornings at 10 a.m. at the outdoor amphitheater in Peterswood Park. Senior citizens enjoy light breakfast options as they listen to Tim & Stacy on June 29; Dr. Zoot Duo on July 27 and The Keystone Chorus on Aug. 31.

WACVA MEETING
The Women’s Army Corps Veterans’ Association will meet at 11 a.m. May 13 at the VFW Post 1810, 3801 Saw Mill Run Blvd. Celebrating the 81st anniversary of the Women’s Army Corps, the group honors its history every May and recognizes women who have served in the military. The Peters Township Chamber of Commerce will host a Marketing Your Business workshop from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. May 23 at 1000 Horizon Vue Dr. in Canonsburg. Tickets are $25 ($35 nonmembers). The chamber’s seventh annual bowling fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 1 at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino. Tickets are $100 for individuals and $500 for up to six people on a team. Park ‘Til Dark will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 20 in South Park. This free, family-friendly event features activities from Sunrise Yoga, Learn for Older Adults, led by Venture Outdoors, basketball, bocce, Special Olympics leisure walk, mushroom foraging, trail running, dek hockey clinics and garden tours. Children’s activities are hosted by Mad Science. Entertainment will feature music from Dave Shepherd followed by The Shelf Life String Band. The day concludes with Pour At the Park from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the museum building, located at the fairgrounds. Pour in the Park is the major fundraiser for the Allegheny Country Parks Foundation and its mission to improve, conserve and restore its nine recreation areas.
