PETERS CREEK

Peters Creek Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 22 at Wrights United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road. Washington County Historical Society executive director Clay Kilgore will speak. His topic is: The President Comes to Washington – A Story about Grant, Fisk, Gould and Gold. Listeners will learn about President Ulysses S. Grant’s visits to Washington and his friendship with William Renshall Smith, which began when he served as volunteer aid-de-camp on Grant’s staff during the Civil War. CHABAD EVENTS

The Chabad of the South Hills will hold the following events:

n Shavuot in an Hour from 5 to 6 p.m. May 26. The free event includes the 10 Commandments, ice cream and a special program for children. RSVP at Chabadsh.com.

CHAMBER BOWL

The seventh annual Peters Township Chamber of Commerce’s “Fun”raiser bowling event will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 1 at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino, located at 210 Racetrack Road. Tickets are $100 per bowler or $500 for a team of six. Email amy@ptcoc.org or call 724-941-6345 for tickets.

MEMBER SEARCH

PT REC

The Peters Township Recreation Department is offering the following programs:

n Trivia Mania from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 23. Ages 55 and over will be challenged with history questions. Fee is $5 ($8 for nonmembers).

n Pound workout from 7 to 7:45 p.m. May 24. This is a full-body jam session inspired through playing drums. Yoga mats are required for this exercise event. Fee is $14 ($21 nonmembers).

n Paper Airplane Extravaganza will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. May 26. Ages 7-11 will construct an aircraft for competition at the end of the class. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers).

n Mayflowers for ages 3-5 from 4 to 5 p.m. and ages 6-10 from 6 to 7 p.m. on May 23 at shelter 4 in Peterswood Park. Participants explore the park for flowers and learn about things plants need to grow.

n Under the Sea will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. June 8. Ages 3-5 will play seaweed games and enjoy a seashell craft. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers).

n Friday Night Flicks beginning at dusk at the Peterswood Park amphitheater. Features are: “The Mighty Ducks” on June 9, “Minions” on July 14; “Top Gun” on July 28; “Puss In Boots” on Aug. 11; “Cruella” on Sept. 8 and the double-feature of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Friday The 13th” on Oct. 13.

COLLEGE CLUB

The College Club of Carnegie will meet on June 3 at Houlihan’s Restaurant in the Galleria, Mt Lebanon. A social starts at 11:30 a.m. Lunch is served at noon. SH CHOIR

Auditions will be held June 1-3 for the South Hills Children’s Choir. Ages 11-18 can sign up at shcchoir.org online or times can be arranged by calling 724-949-0048 or emailing office@shcchoir.org to set up times. Ages 8-10 need no audition but must register.

BAD ART

The Peters Township Library will host a bad art night from 6 to 7 p.m. June 6. The library will provide all supplies. Participants will create the worst piece of art but they can bring photos, printouts, magazines for collages, etc. Adults should accompany children in grades 4 and under. Registration is required. ANIMAL BLESSING

PT CHAMBER

The Peters Township Chamber of Commerce will host a Marketing Your Business workshop from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. May 23 at 1000 Horizon Vue Dr. in Canonsburg. Tickets are $25 ($35 nonmembers). The chamber’s seventh annual bowling fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 1 at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino. Tickets are $100 for individuals and $500 for up to six people on a team. The Peters Township Library will host a U.S. Army War College panel discussion from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 23. Applying Strategic Empathy: From Humanitarian Relief to Great Power Competition, will be the topic of discussion. Senior officers will appear in person. The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department offers the following activities for senior citizens:

Applications are due May 22 for the Christmas Affair Craft Show that is held annually at John McMillan Presbyterian Church, located at 875 Clifton Road in Bethel Park. CONCERT

“Songs my Mother Taught Me” will be featured from 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 26 at the Academy Concerts at Sunnyhill Church, located on Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. As a family ensemble consisting of violinist Monique Mead, harpist Isabel Cardenes, and pianist Tino Cardenes, the Trio con Brio presents a program featuring strange-but-true stories of their musical lives on and off the stage. Performing solo and in mixed ensembles, music includes works by Beethoven, Dett, Gershwin, Gliere, and Piazzolla sprinkled with Mother Goose rhymes and Cuban rhythms. Tickets are $20. Woodville will conduct a course in paper quilling from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, June 1, 8 and 15, at the historic landmark located at 1375 Washington Pike in Collier. LEGOS CAMP

A Legos Camp will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. June 12 to 16 at the Peters Township Recreation Center. Ages 6 to 12 can participate and will design mazes, robots, cars and buildings. SAFE DRIVING

A senior citizen driver improvement course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 15 at the Upper St. Clair recreation department. The state Department of Transportation-approved class is designed for drivers age 55 and older. There is no testing or behind-the-wheel driving. It is a refresher of driving skills and knowledge of the rules of the road. Participants receive a multi-year discount on auto insurance.
