PICKLEBALL
The Bethel Park recreation department will offer pickleball classes beginning April 14 at Millennium Park. The six-week courses run through May 23.
Adult cardio clinics are held from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday or Saturday.
Adult advance beginner clinics are offered from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday or Saturday as well as from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays.
Adult intermediate clinics will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday or Saturday as well as from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays.
Fees are $150 ($160 nonresidents.)
A 3&Me adult clinic is offered from 111 a.m. to noon or 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Participants play with a pro and receive personalized instruction in a semi-private lesson limited to three to four players. Fee is $180 ($190 nonresidents.)
A junior pickleball clinic for ages 8 to 16 will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Fee is $150 ($180 nonresidents).

PLANT SALE
Pittsburgh Botanic Garden’s artisan market and plant sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 19. This event features a curated selection of local artists and artisans offering handcrafted home goods, garden décor, gifts, and one-of-a-kind creations inspired by the natural world. CONCERT
The Unity Presbyterian Church will present Brent Vernon and Sam at 5 p.m. April 25. The free concert will be held in the sanctuary of the church, located at 1165 Greentree Road. A free-will offering will be collected.
Since 1995, Vernon, who is a singer/songwriter/ventriloquist, and his pal Sam have criss-crossed the United States, Ireland, Australia, Canada and the Caribbean sharing a ministry through a variety of concerts and presentations in churches, schools, and at special events.
SPEAKER
Bower Hill Church hosts author and scholar Andrew Root. He will speak April 22 on ways that
congregations can maintain and build spiritual vitality in a climate of decline and fragmentation.
Root, a professor of youth and family ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., will speak at the second session of a three-part speaker series. The session will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cefalo’s Banquet and Event Center, located at 428 Washington Ave. in Carnegie
Dinner is included with the $35 registration.
Root is author of “When Church Stops Working.” He is also author of the six-volume “Ministry in a Secular Age” series and hosts the podcast of the same name.
The series is part of Bower Hill’s 75th anniversary commemoration, inviting the
community to join in a wide-ranging discussion about the future of American religion and
congregational life. The series, in partnership with Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh Presbytery, will conclude with a panel discussion on May 13.

AQUA PARK
Season passes for the Peters Township Aqua Park can be purchased online at peterstownship.com or by visiting the recreation center. The facility is located at 110 Warriors Way in McMurray and is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
A season pass, which includes admission for up to four people, is $50 for residents and $100 for nonresidents. Daily admission is $3.50 per person ($7 for nonresident).
The facility is also available for rentals with two-hour time slots with 30 passes. The party room fee is $225 ($450 nonresidents). Shelter fee is $175 ($350 nonresidents). Full facility rental is available from June 1 to July 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for residents only and for a fee of $1,000.

Seed Bombs will be made from 6 to 7 p.m. April 20 by children, ages 7 to 11, to celebrate Earth Day. The creations will help flowers grow and make the planet greener. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers).
Summer Day Camps will be offered for chess, volleyball, theater, sports, science and cooking. Details and registration information can be found on the website.
Parking Lot Bingo from noon to 2 p.m. April 29 for senior citizens only. Players receive disposable cards and markers and honk their horn when they get a bingo. Space is limited. Bring your own snacks and drinks.
Babushkas & Hard Hats: This bus trip explores Pittsburgh’s steel heritage and highlights the people, places and events that shaped the Steel City. Tourists will visit the Bost Building, Carrie Blast Furnaces and Pump House while learning about the 1892 Homestead Strike. Lunch is included. The bus departs at 8 a.m. and returns at 4:30 p.m. on July 23. Fee is $210. Registration deadline is May 4.
Bugs and Blankets from 1 to 2 p.m. April 22. The event will include picnic-themed games, crafts and activities. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers). Registration deadline is April 17.
Teen Crochet 101 from 6 to 8 p.m. April 17. Ages 9 to 12 can participate. Those who attend will learn how to choose the correct yarn weight and needle as well as learn basic stitches. All supplies provided. Fee is $10 ($15 nonmembers). Sign-up deadline is April 15.
Floral Design Workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 18. Fee is $15 ($23 nonmembers). A $22 material fee is due the first day of class. Participants create a garden-style vase arrangement and learn professional floral techniques.
SAT Prep. In conjunction with the Huntington Learning Center, high school students can take a practice exam at 2 p.m. April 26 at the recreation center. GARDENING
The Giant Oaks Garden Club’s annual plant sale and garden market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on May 16 at Peters Township Public Library, located at 616 East McMurray Rd.
The sale will highlight a large variety of hanging baskets, annuals, and quality potted perennial plants selected from members’ gardens. Also featured are container gardens of herbs, vegetables, and annuals. The sale also includes new and lightly used gardening items, decorations, and crafts as well as raffle baskets of gardening items. Club members are also available to assist and answer gardening questions from the public.
The event helps fund contributions to many local community groups, including the Peters Township Library, Phipps Conservatory, Western PA Conservancy, Peters Township Meals on Wheels, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, the National Aviary, and many more. The club also awards $1,500 scholarships to local graduating seniors planning a course of study in gardening.

Church of the Atonement, 618 Washington Ave., Carnegie, will have its Spring Flea Market April 24 and 25.
The event will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day. However, on April 24 it will close at noon and reopen at 1 p.m. for the bag sale. Cash only will be accepted.

GRANTS
Women of Southwestern PA Inc. is accepting grant applications to benefit children and women in need in Washington, Fayette, Greene, Allegheny, Beaver and Westmoreland counties. Deadline to apply for funding requests up to $3,500 from nonprofit charities and community organizations is April 30.
To qualify, charities must have IRS 501c(3) status, request funds for specific projects which have no state or federal funding and must benefit women or children.

RAFFLE
The deadline to enter the Pymatuning Area Getaway Raffle is April 30.
The Friends of the South Park Township Library is again sponsoring their seven-day, six-night Pymatuning Lake Cottage Getaway.
Tickets can be purchased at the South Park Township Library’s circulation desk. Ticket donations are $1 for 1, $5 for 7, or $10 for 15.
Tickets will be drawn April 30 at the library. The prize must be redeemed by Nov. 15.

CONCERT
The South Hills Chorale will present its spring concert, Dreamscapes: Songs of Hope and Adventure, at 7 p.m. on May 1 and 1 p.m. May 2 at Christ United Methodist Church, located at 44 Highland Road.
The program explores the universal themes of imagination, perseverance, and the spirit of adventure through a collection of choral works. Audiences will be transported through musical storytelling that ranges from heroic journeys and legendary tales to moments of reflection and inspiration.
