BOOK SALE

A book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30 at Evey True Value Hardware, located at 5779 Library Road.

Sponsored by The Friends of the Bethel Park Public Library, the sale features children’s books, popular fiction and nonfiction writers, as well as a special section for historical selections commemorating the country’s birthday.

COIN CLUB

The South Hills Coin Club meets at 7:30 p.m. June 9 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building located at 5100 West Library Ave. The program will focus on the bicentennial.

All members and the general public can attend. A 50/50 raffle will be held and children’s prizes will be awarded.

AUP GROUP

The Association of University People (AUP) welcomes singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates, to join them for various activities and to meet new friends.

Events include happy hour, brunches, lunches, dinners, meet-ups at live music venues and local wineries, picnics, book group, day trips, and Scrabble.

Those interested can attend three activities as guests before deciding to join.

LIBRARY

The Bethel Park library will host “Preparing For Life After High School: How To Coach Your Teen Toward Independent Skill Building” at 6:30 p.m. May 27. Caitlin Ortis of PKO Counseling Services instructs. Registration is required.

BLOOD DRIVE

A Save Our Summer blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 27 at the Peters Township community recreation center located at 700 Meredith Dr. First-time donors are eligible to win prizes.

PLANT SWAP

The Bethel Park Library will hold its annual plant swap May 28 through June 1 during regular business hours. The library is closed Sundays, including May 31. Visitors can either bring in plants or seeds to share or find new items to take home. Inventory is ever-changing. For those bringing items, they should be labeled if possible and in well-watered containers. Plants can be found in the Fireplace Room of the library, located at 5100 West Library Ave.

The library will also hold a Henna Art Workshop at 6:30 p.m. May 7. Participants will learn the basics of natural henna, explore traditional and modern design techniques and create patterns on paper.

PARK PARTY

Classic cars, food trucks, live music and fireworks will be featured at the Party in the Park, to be held from noon to 10 p.m. May 30 in Carnegie Park.

REUNION

The South Park High School’s Class of ’76 will hold its 50th reunion Aug. 21 at the Cottage, located at the South Park Fairgrounds, near the clock building. The picnic begins at noon. Tickets are $30 per person. Guests can attend. The reunion committee will provide food and cake. Classmates and guests should bring their own beverages, snacks and sides. PT REC

Weird Eric Magic Show at 6:30 p.m. June 17 at the Peterswood Park Amphitheater. This is a free children’s show.

Under The Sea theater camp will be held from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. July 6 to 10. Ages 7 to 11 can attend and learn the basics of theater. Lorra Brannen instructs. Fee is $130 ($195 nonmembers).

Community Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rolling Hills Park. Fireworks launch at 9:30 p.m.

Stars, stripes and crafts will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. June 18. Ages 3 to 5 will create patriotic crafts while learning about the Fourth of July. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers). Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Iphone 101 will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 4. The session will teach the basics from adding contacts to downloading and using apps and browsing the web. Bring phone, Apple ID and password to class. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers). Registration deadline is June 2.

Dance Explorations Session III begins June 10 and is held from 6:15 to 6:55 p.m. Wednesdays. Ages 3 to 5 gain confidence, musicality and body awareness through ballet, jazz and tumbling. Fee is $40 ($60 nonmembers).

Craft Cutting Machine Class is held Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. through June 23. Fee is $50 ($75 nonmembers) plus material fee of $25.

Summer Day Camps will be offered for chess, volleyball, theater, sports, science and cooking. Details and registration information can be found on the website.

Babushkas & Hard Hats: This bus trip explores Pittsburgh’s steel heritage and highlights the people, places and events that shaped the Steel City. Tourists will visit the Bost Building, Carrie Blast Furnaces and Pump House while learning about the 1892 Homestead Strike. Lunch is included. The bus departs at 8 a.m. and returns at 4:30 p.m. on July 23. Fee is $210.

Discounted summer amusement tickets are available for purchase in person at the Peters Township recreation center, located at 700 Meredith Dr.

Tickets are $43 at Kennywood; $35 for Sandcastle and $40 at Idlewood & Soak Zone. All are any-day passes and all sales are final.

KIDS SHOW

Miss Cassidy Creates will be presented at 6:30 p.m. on June 10 at the Peterswood Park Amphitheater.

This is an all-ages dance party with something for everybody. Groove to a mix of throwback favorites and kid-approved hits while joining interactive games, call-and response fun and group dances.

Beedles Ice Cream food truck will be on site.

RETIREMENT

A free retirement readiness event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Upper St. Clair community center

This community panel event brings together local experts in estate planning, Medicare, financial planning, and real estate for a discussion as well as question-and-answer session.

MARKET

The Mt. Lebanon Uptown Market, featuring regional farmers and food producers, opens May 30. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through October. 31.

BRIDGEVILLE

Bridgeville Day on the Avenue will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 20 in the downtown business along Washington Avenue from Hickman Street and Bower Hill Road. An eclectic mix of local craft and food vendors will offer unique treasures and mouthwatering treats. There will be a car cruise, live entertainment, free children’s activities and fun for all ages.

VENDORS

Registration is open for local businesses and organizations that wish to set up a booth in Mt. Lebanon Park for the community’s July 4 celebration. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Businesses, food vendors and non-profits must register.

Additionally, high school-age workers are needed to run carnival games. They will be paid $10 per hour.

250 AMERICA SERIES

The Bethel Park library will celebrate America’s 250th birthday by hosting a series of speakers and programs. Threats to the Independence of Pennsylvania’s judiciary is the topic on June 3 at 6:30 p.m. Western Pennsylvania in the Revolutionary era will be discussed at 6:30 p.m. June 23.

LICENSES

An illegible license plate and disability placard event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at Rep. Natalie Mihalek’s office, located in Suite 2200A at 1121 Boyce Road. An Upper St. Clair police officer will be present to check and complete replacement registration forms for any Pennsylvania resident who has a license plate that is peeling, damaged, or otherwise illegible. Assistance with obtaining disability parking placards will also be available. PennDOT will then replace the license plate for free once required documentation is received. PONY CAMP

Horses Unlimited Stables will offer a pony camp, designed specifically for beginner riders ages 5 to 10, at its private barn in South Park. While the first camp is full, a second camp has been added for Aug. 10-13. Time is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp is limited to 12 children. Campers learn to care for, groom, tack up, and ride ponies.

CRAFTER CALL

Applications are being accepted for John McMillan Presbyterian Church’s annual Christmas Affair.

Space is limited for the event scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at 875 Clifton Road, Bethel Park.

Each year, more than 50 artisans showcase a wide variety of handmade goods and holiday gifts at the event, which also includes a festive Gingerbread House, chance auction and the Kris Kringle Kafé. Admission is free.

The summer Camp Gan Izzy will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30 to July 1. Ages 4 to 11 can attend the camp which includes Jewish themes, specialty clubs, swimming, weekly trips, sports, science, baking, and crafts. Daily lunch and snacks are included. Limited scholarships are available.
