FESTIVAL

A fall festival will be held, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 on Church Avenue in Ben Avon. There will be 50 vendors featuring food, arts and crafts, home decor and local organizations. Activities include children’s games, raffles, used book sale and music.

DECORATING

A cookie decorating class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Peters Township recreation center.

Ages 8 and older can attend but children under 14 must attend with a paying adult.

Fee is $50 ($75 nonmembers). A $15 materials fee needs to be paid to the instructor on the day of class. DIY kits are also available for purchase for $20

Judy Hagerty from Judy’s Custom Cookies will instruct as participants learn step-by-step techniques used to decorate six fall-themed cookies.

SELF PORTRAITS

An expressive self-portrait course, taught by certified art teacher Kathryn Strong, will be offered from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Peters Township recreation center.

FALL FEST

The Bethel Park Lions Club’s family fall fun fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 at Lions Park located at 5757 Irishtown Rd. In addition to food, games and entertainment, the event will feature Highland Cows and Monday’s Brewing.

GENEALOGY

The Mt. Lebanon Genealogy Society will meet at 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s Meeting Room A, downstairs. Kate Townsend will be the featured speaker and her topic will be: “Becoming an American: Naturalization through the Ages”. The laws that dictated that process, how to identify these records and where to find them will also be addressed. New members can attend.

WOMEN’S CLUB

“The South Hills Women’s Club will meet at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 12 at Scott Township Lodge, located on Park Drive in Carnegie. Felicia Trovato will discuss the history of the FBI and provide an in-depth look into the agency. She is a Community Outreach Specialist at the Pittsburgh office.

ART MARKET

The Mt. Lebanon Partnership Artists’ Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26 and 27 in the Academy Lot, behind The Saloon and across from Rollier’s Hardware.

A two-day juried fine arts festival transforming Uptown into a vibrant regional arts destination features 60 to 80 professional artists showcasing original, handcrafted work in a wide range of media, including: 2D artwork, jewelry, wood, sculpture, glass, ceramics, fiber, wearables, mixed media, leather and metal. Visitors can also enjoy food vendors and live entertainment throughout the weekend.

GENEALOGY

The Mt. Lebanon Genealogy Society will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s Meeting Room A, downstairs.

In celebration of America’s 250th birthday, Megan Clark-Young will discuss “Finding Your Revolutionary War Relatives” and provide an overview of the types of records useful for genealogical research in Pennsylvania during that era as well as where to find those records today.

She will also discuss the difference between service in a local militia and the Continental Line as well as the types of records each kind of service generated. She will also examine pension application files and bounty land records, focusing especially on the donation and depreciation lands within the bounds of western Pennsylvania.

ARTS SHOW

The South Arts Pittsburgh is participating in the following:

Fall Art Show from Oct. 2-11 at the Galleria Mall, located at 1500 Washington Road.

Halloween Bash and South Arts Night Artist Market from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Schoolhouse Art and History Center, located at 2600 South Park Road. Another event will be held at the same site Nov. 7-8.

Local vendors and artists will be displaying and selling artwork and handcrafted creations.

Reginald’s Coffee will be open during the schoolhouse location events to purchase coffee/tea.

CHABAD

Seniors In the Sukkah will be held Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Chabad of the South Hills location at 1701 McFarland Road. MUSIC

The Harmony Singers of Pittsburgh will present a holiday concert “Yuletide Noels” under the direction of Cynthia G. Pratt at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave. The facility is accessible to all.

The concert will include an hour of holiday entertainment for all ages with a mixture of joyful, sacred, and secular songs.

Admission is free but donations are welcome and will benefit the charitable and entertainment efforts of the Harmony Singers

CRAFTS

The South Park Women’s Club’s 32nd annual craft show will be held Oct. 10 at the Broughton Fire Hall and the group is seeking “unique” crafters and vendors for the event, which features a variety of homemade items as well as offers refreshments, a bake sale, auction and raffle baskets.

Applications are being accepted for John McMillan Presbyterian Church’s annual Christmas Affair.

Space is limited for the event scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at 875 Clifton Road, Bethel Park.

Each year, more than 50 artisans showcase a wide variety of handmade goods and holiday gifts at the event, which also includes a festive Gingerbread House, chance auction and the Kris Kringle Kafé. Admission is free.

The Joy of Christmas craft show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center at 320 McMurray Road.

More than 100 artists and crafters will offer items for purchase. In addition to craft and 50/50 raffles, lunch, snacks and baked goods will be available for purchase.

Admission is $2 and includes a ticket for the craft raffle.

Strollers are not permitted inside the show.

Giant Oaks Garden Club’s annual Tinsel luncheon and fundraiser will be held Oct. 30 at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe. Tickets for “Glitter & Glow” are $50 per person and includes a luncheon as well as a full day of vendor shopping, raffle baskets valued at a minimum of $100, door prizes, and a 50/50 drawing.

AARP

The AARP Chapter 3016 meets the second Thursday of the month at Unity Presbyterian Church, 1146 Greentree Road.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The meeting starts at noon.

The group offers trips, picnics, programs and holiday parties. Ages 55 and older can attend.
