South Fayette to induct seven into Hall of Fame
South Fayette will induct seven alumni into its high school Hall of Fame. The official ceremony will take place Oct. 3.
The induction ceremony will be emceed by South Fayette resident and parent of alumni, Mark Snider, best known as his radio personality, “Bubba” on Star 100.7 FM’s “Bubba Show.” The ceremony begins at 7 pm in the high school theatre and is open to
the community at no charge.
On Friday, Oct 4, the inductees will be announced in the stadium prior to the football game versus Upper St. Clair High School. The game will also serve as a recognition night for the region’s first responders.
Among the 2024 inductees into the Hall of Fame are: Christian Brumbaugh (2011), Nick Carr (2011), Andrew DiDonato (2006), Michael Greer (2001), Niel Loebig ( 2000), Dr. Frank Thomas Slovick (1969), and Gerald Zeman (1960).
● Brumbaugh was a star football and basketball player at South Fayette as well as an
excellent student and person. He attended college on a full football scholarship
continuing to win accolades and excel academically.
● Carr was a great student and nationally ranked wrestler while at South Fayette. He
earned a perfect season wrestling at Washington & Jefferson College and concluded his
college career with only one loss which occurred in the national championship.
● DiDonato was a captain and record holder playing football for Grove City College and
has had tremendous success as a coach. He was an offensive coordinator for South Fayette in 2013 and 2014 before returning to Grove City where he has been head coach for the past nine years and was named PAC Coach of the year in 2018 and 2023 among other accolades.
● Greer discovered his love for theater at South Fayette which became a fruitful career
including more than 35 productions with the Pittsburgh CLO. He also directs and choreographs local high school productions and has found great success as an award-winning financial advisor when the pandemic shut down the world of theater.
● Loebig impacted football and basketball at South Fayette and was a four-year starter for
Duquesne University football. Holding multiple records, he is the only QB in university
history to throw for over 2,000 yards and 20 TDs in four seasons. He is already a
member of Duquesne’s Hall of Fame and has gone on to earn Coach of the Year and
Teacher of the Year awards professionally.
● Slovick was a four-sport letterman and outstanding student at South Fayette who earned
a scholarship to study medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. His career led him to
specialize in blood diseases. He recently retired after having cared for thousands of
patients with leukemia and other blood cancers.
● Zeman was a South Fayette football player who earned a full scholarship to the
University of Arizona in Tucson where he played varsity all four years. After graduation he focused on coaching and teaching, eventually returning to the region and spending the majority of his professional career at South Fayette.
The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors alumni who have had successes at South Fayette and beyond in the areas of the Arts, Academics, and Athletics. This is the third year for the induction ceremony.
“We are greatly looking forward to honoring these individuals in our third annual Hall of Fame
induction ceremony,” said South Fayette athletics director Mark Keener. “With the addition of this year’s group, we will have 22 deserving inductees representing the very best of academics, athletics, and the arts at South Fayette over the years.
‘This year’s seven gentlemen each made a significant contribution to our school community during their student days and have gone on in their college and professional careers continuing to make us proud to call them Lions. It is our honor to recognize them in this way and our hope that they will serve as inspiration to our future alumni.”
