Lebo pair finish fourth in doubles

Camilla Buch and Lauren Masteller finished fourth in the WPIAL girls’ doubles tennis tournament played Oct. 3-4 at North Allegheny.

The Mt. Lebanon tandem lost their consolation match, 6-4, 6-2, to Jenna Bell and Addison Kemerer from Latrobe in the consolation match.

Ella Santora and Aya Youssef from Shady Side Academy captured the district title by defeating Amelia Haley and Emily Ivory of Mars, 7-5, 6-4, in the championship match. Santora and Youssef outlasted Buch and Masteller, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, to advance to the finals.

In reaching the Final Four, Buch and Masteller dispatched Baylin Bitar and Katie Voigt, 10-0, as well as Madison Cordisco and Gabby Miller from Hampton, 10-2, during the opening rounds of the tournament.

Lebo’s other twosome – Bridget Zimmerman and Alexandra Renton – eliminated Isha Reddy and Paige Golfen, 10-8, in the opening round of play but lost to Bell and Kemerer, 10-5, in the quarterfinals.

Upper St. Clair’s Dani Gibbons and Gia Winseck were also ousted in the quarterfinals by Santora and Youssef. The pair defeated Alyssa Sarver and Abby Nardulli from Pine-Richland, 10-3, in the first round.

Anna Rush and Bella Goldman, also from USC, reached the quarterfinals before falling to Haley and Ivory, 10-2. Rush and Goldman beat Fox Chapel’s Carissa Shepard and Lexi Quackenbush, 10-4, in the first round.

The top doubles teams along with the top singles players in the WPIAL advance to the PIAA championships to be held Nov. 2-3 at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey.

The WPIAL team tournament commences this week with opening round action Oct. 10-11. The finals will be played Oct. 18 or 19 at North Allegheny.
