FIRST Robotics Team wins award

The Titanium Titans Robotics team recently won the Rookie Inspiration Award for team organization, recruitment, sponsorship and team spirit at the 2013 FIRST Pittsburgh Regional Competition held March 15-16 in the Peterson Events Center in Oakland.
The team’s robot, named Atlas, was designed to shoot frisbees a distance of 52-feet, with an adjustable deck for targeting and aiming. In addition, the robot was able to lift its weight and “climb” up one level on a 12-foot metal pyramid.
The Titanium Titans was started in October 2012 by a partnership between the Creative Learning Collaborative (CLC) and the Peters Township Public Library and is open to students in grades 9-12 in the South Hills who are interested in hands-on robotic design and engineering. Team sponsors are Comcast, the National Network of Digital Schools, PA Cyber, Tyco Electronics, Ironworkers Union #3 and the Peters Township Public Library.
The CLC is a parent-led community group sponsored by the Peters Township Public Library as a community-wide educational outreach. The group’s mission is to create access to and excitement about STEM-based learning programs among students in the Canonsburg, Peters Township, Bethel Park, South Fayette and Upper St. Clair areas.
