Residents in South Fayette Township will have another chance to comment on the township’s comprehensive plan. Commissioners announced at the board’s April 10 workshop meeting that a public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 17 prior to the board’s regular voting meeting.

Township Manager Ryan Eggleston said one modification to the future land use map in the comprehensive plan has been made since last month’s voting meeting. He said that the modification includes a small change to the mixed office/residential area near the border of Upper St. Clair Township. A revised map is posted to the township’s website, www.south-fayette.pa.us, under “Comprehensive Plan Information.” At last month’s meeting, the Rural Conservation area portions of the future land use maps were renamed Rural Residential Growth areas.

Also at the meeting, Eggleston informed the board that the township’s new parks and recreation director, Miles “Butch” Truitt, will be starting his job with the township on April 22. Truitt is currently the parks and recreation and public works director in Oil City.

Eggleston informed the board at the meeting of a request for a community garden for use with the township’s library. He said library director Rebecca Long came up with the idea for a “Pizza Garden” in the courtyard between the municipal building and the library. “I think it would be a neat learning opportunity,” Eggleston said. Once approved by commissioners, the library will be seeking donations of plants, soil and tools for the garden. Eggleston said once the garden is producing, Long would like to have children make their own pizzas from the vegetables in the garden.
