Stefko resigns as Chartiers Valley basketball coach

Chartiers Valley women’s basketball coach Spencer Stefko submitted his letter of resignation this afternoon, April 12, to athletic director Frank Vulcano.
While Stefko indicated that he had “thoroughly enjoyed every moment” coaching at CV, he felt he no longer was the best person for the job.
“There is nothing negative in this decision. Just a desire that the kids get the best person for the job,” he said.
Stefko coached the Lady Colts for seven seasons, compiling a 137-51 record. He guided CV to the PIAA semifinals three of the past four years. The Colts had won 20 or more games in four campaigns and reached the playoffs in all seven seasons under Stefko.
After competing in Class AAA, CV moved up to Quad-A this winter and continued to experience success under Stefko. The Colts reached the WPIAL finals as well as the state semifinals. CV finished 22-8 overall during the 2012-13 campaign.
In his letter of resignation, Stefko expressed his “heartfelt” thanks to the athletic department, administration and community.
“I am immeasurably proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes, and I am certain that these accomplishments would not have been as significant without the support of their families, the athletic department, and the school at large.”
Stefko is a social studies teacher in the Chartiers Valley School District.
