As one of the supervisors who originally hired John Pushak, who recently resigned as Cecil Township’s chief of police, and who worked with Pushak through the years, I can state unequivocally that I fully concur with the letter written by Bridget Laird supporting him that appeared in the April 10 edition of The Almanac.

When we supervisors were originally conducting interviews during the process of building a full-time police force, John was still in the U.S. Army. The resume that he submitted was so professional and seemed to so exactly fit for our needs that I urged my two fellow supervisors to hold off hiring another applicant until John was discharged from the service and could appear before us. My fellow supervisors concurred, and later, after interviewing John, we hired him as a police officer.

When our dedicated police chief, Tony Secreet, later retired, we chose John to lead the force. And lead he did. Under his guidance, Cecil Township built one of the finest township police forces in western Pennsylvania.

I am so very proud to have been one of those who originally brought John Pushak to Cecil Township. I ask that all citizens of Cecil Township remember John as a man of honesty and integrity. He is a gentleman, and I will always cherish his friendship. And we should also give thanks for our township police officers who protect us each day.
