Mt. Lebanon second to Hempfield
Mt. Lebanon finished runner-up in both the boys’ and the girls’ team standings during the Tri-State Track Coaches Association Championships held at West Mifflin High School. Relays enabled the Blue Devils to dominate all but Hempfield, which captured both team titles.
The Blue Devils claimed the gold in the girls’ 400- and 3,200-meter relays while the boys won the sprint relay.
Juliana Galante, Erika Garrison, Caroline Blickert and Beatrice Goodyear combined to win the 400 in 49.90 while Audrey Gordon, Callie Gunzenhauser, Jillian Hunsberger and Julie Kocjancic teamed up for the win in the 3,200 in 9:59.71.
Individually, Galante took third and fifth in the 100 and 200 while Garrison finished fifth in the 100. Goodyear brought home the bronze in the high hurdles while Hunsberger won the 3,200 in 11:17.67. Gordon placed second in the 1,600.
Kelsey Potts and Natalie Corrado grabbed the gold in their premier races. Potts won the mile run in 5:14.42 while Corrado placed first in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a 47.04 time. Ava Graham followed in fifth.
Jillian Linkowski also finished fifth in the long jump and added seventh in the triple. Ellie Meinzer also was seventh in the 400 dash.
Troy Apke paced the Lebo boys. The junior coasted to victory in the 100 dash in 11.28.
He also helped the 400 relay team to victory. Having a hand in the win also were Michael Briercheck, Chris Ferari and Patrick Lawrence. Ferari, Bryant Hanberry, Davis Hanberry and Mitch Titchworth finished runner-up to Penn Hills in the 4-by-400 relay.
Todd Gunzenhauser, Sam Hughes, Rob Janiszewski and Jamie Kozzorra combined for sixth in the 3,200 relay.
While Seamus Roddy and Patrick Quirk took third and fourth in the 3,200, John Heagy and Cullen Piatt finished fourth and eighth in the high jump.
Jacob Rolfsen, Briercheck, Billy Dougherty grabbed seventh places in the 100, 200 and 800 races respectively. In eight places were Tony Consiglio (1,600) and Chris Maher (high hurdles). Mark Vrabel was seventh in intermediate hurdles.
Top finishers in the field events included: Christian Horta-Kovacs, sixth, shot; Trevor Buda, third, javelin; Alexander Bookser and Mark Buda, fourth and sixth in discus.
DeJalynn Peterson and Kristina Coyne paced the Chartiers Valley girls.
Peterson won the 400 dash in 59.09. She added fourth in the 200 dash.
Coyne captured runner-up honors in the high hurdles. Maddie Homberg edged Coyne by .37 seconds (15.80) for first. The senior finished fifth in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump.
Also for the Lady Colts, Katie Doyle secured sixth in the long jump while Chrissy Solt was seventh in the javelin.
For the CV boys, Dom Politi finished fifth in the 400 while Zachary Farrow was eighth in the javelin.
James Smith cruised to victory in the 800-meter run to pace the Upper St. Clair track team. He won the race in 1:58.02.
John Rutkowski, who was third in the 400 and sixth in the 200, helped guide the 4-by-400 team to a fourth-place finish. Sam Boyd, Anthony Demaio and James Smith ran legs on the relay.
While Betsy Erlanger finished fourth in the mile, Alyza Madson and Angelica Lucas added eighths in the 400 dash and 3,200 respectively.
Eighth in the 400-meter relay were Kelsey Becker, Tara Degnan, Gabriella Granato and Madison Veglia while John Loper secured seventh in the shot put.

From Seton-La Salle:
• Raja Rutherford, seventh, long jump.
Kylie Knavish and Alec Rideout claimed Most Valuable Performer honors during the Washington-Greene County Coaches Track Meet held at Peters Township stadium.
A Peters Township junior, Knavish won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. She also guided the 3,200-meter relay unit to victory.
Knavish’s efforts enabled Peters Township to capture the girls’ team title with 163 points. Canon-McMillan secured second place with a 120 score.
In winning all three field events, Rideout earned personal records. He won the javelin with a throw of 158 feet, 6 inches. He took the gold in the shot put and discus with tosses of 51-10 and 157-8 respectively.
Riedout guided the Big Macs to a runner-up showing to Wash High in the team standings. While the Prexies posted a 192 score, CM finished with 155 points. Peters Township followed in third place.
Ryan Davey was a double winner for the Big Macs. He took first in the 400 (49.93) and 800 (2:03.97) runs. He also finished fourth in the 200.
Nick Wolk of Peters Township won the 3,200 run.
