Marylu McKown of Bethel Park was recently elected to the Board of Directors for Women’s Business Network, Inc. (WBN) and will be serving as the organization’s recording secretary.
A graduate of Robert Morris University, McKown majored in accounting and business management. She then worked in health care accounting, reimbursement and budgeting for 22 years. For the past 15 years, she has been in direct sales, finally finding her home company with SendOutCards.
McKown has been an active member of the South Hills Chapter of WBN since 2010. She also volunteers at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park as an usher and in the hospitality ministry. She previously ministered to the homeless for two years when she lived in Florida. She was also an MS facilitator with the South Hills National Multiple Sclerosis Society support group for seven years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her seven grandchildren who all live in the Pittsburgh area.
Melaine Shannon Rothey, Esquire, of the law firm of Jones, Gregg, Creehan & Gerace, LLP, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the board of directors of Neighborhood Legal Services Association (NLSA). Attorney Rothey concentrates her western Pennsylvania law practice in all aspects of Family Law, including divorce, child custody and support and has been a frequent volunteer attorney for NLSA for many years. Rothey resides in Upper St. Clair.
Gurney Bolster, MA, Dance/Movement Therapy, who teaches Tai Chi in seated and standing forms to the residents of Providence Point and Baptist Homes, was recently promoted to senior trainer by The Tai Chi for Health Institute (TCHI). TCHI is a worldwide organization dedicated to developing safe, accessible and effective Tai Chi programs to promote health and well-being. Its Tai Chi for Arthritis program is endorsed by the Arthritis Foundation to help relieve stress, reduce pain and improve balance.
Bolster is one of 45 senior trainers in the country, and the only in Pennsylvania. TCHI has more than 2,200 instructors in the United States. Bolster has been sharing her passion for dance, movement and wellness with people of all ages for more than 30 years.
Janet Ford, a 21-year member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Canonsburg (BPW), was recently presented with the District 12 Tribute to Women Award at the BPWPA State Convention. Ford is a past Woman of the Year recipient and has served twice as president of Canonsburg BPW. She has also held several other positions in the club and chaired numerous committees. Ford has also held the position of second vice president for District 12. Ford, who designed, established and maintains Canonsburg BPW’s website also received a state award for the Best Local Organization Web Presence.
