The IHC Hockey Training Center will hold a grand opening noon-3 p.m. Aug. 24. The center is located inside the St. Clair Fitness and Racquet Club at 1341 McLaughlin Run Road. Tours and demonstrations will be available as well as refreshments and giveaways.

The IHC Hockey Training Center features the state of the art synthetic ice “skating speed ramp” for explosiveness and quickness. The facility also offers skill instruction on a 20-by-40 foot synthetic ice rink, slide boards, Russian plyometric boxes, hockey specific training aids, Crossfit training, and three full rooms of weight training and cardio equipment. The training center will offer private and small group lessons as well as goalie instruction.

The Pines of Mt. Lebanon and Integracare, management company for The Pines, held its third annual Golf Outing at QuickSilver Golf course in Midway to benefit The Kristopher King Foundation. The non-profit charitable foundation was formed in 2009 in honor of Kristopher King. In 2008 at age 19, he became an organ donor. The foundation works to increase pediatric organ donation through education and awareness. The Pines, where King’s mother, Rebecca Beyer, is the food service director, also held a spaghetti dinner and bake sale. Proceeds from both events, which totaled $1,000, were dedicated to the foundation.

Tour the Montour will be held Sept. 21. The bicycle ride begins at the trail’s mile zero marker, located at Route 51 and Montour Road, just off I-79 and the Coraopolis/Neville Island Bridge.

Rides vary in length from a 6-mile family fun ride through a metric century (62 miles) and start between 7:15 and 8:15 a.m.

Fees range between $25 and $45 for adults and families pre-registering before Sept. 6. Fees increase to $30 and $50 after this date.

Registration deadline for Mt. Lebanon’s first- and second-grade youth soccer is 4 p.m. Aug. 23.

Play begins Sept. 14 at Dixon, Middle or Wildcat Fields on Cedar Boulevard.

Registration deadline for the Green Tree adult coed softball league is 4 p.m. Aug. 23. Fee is $150 per team.

Rosters must consist of a maximum of 15 players with at least five women, four of which must play at all times.

Games will be played beginning in September at Hemlock Fields in Green Tree Park.

Learn-to-swim group lessons, from beginners through pre-competitive, will be offered by the Upper St. Clair Swim Club at the high school pool.

Registration for the Pacer Track Club’s cross country season will be held Sept. 3 prior to the team’s first practice at the Gilfillan Trail, located off Route 19 between South Hills Village Mall and Upper St. Clair High School.

Fee is $35 plus USATF membership dues of $20.

Practices are held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Ages 8-13 are eligible. No experience required.
