Author Steve Mulligan will discuss his books about the Civic Arena and Three Rivers Stadium at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at Chartiers-Houston Community Library.

Vanadium Woods Village, Scott Township, will host two free events:

• Hawaiian Luau at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 29. Tropical refreshments and entertainment by the steel drum band, Tropical Sands.

Collier Township Parks & Rec will hold its monthly Senior Luncheon and Movie beginning at noon on Sept. 10.

Collier Township Parks & Recreation will offer Pickle Ball for Seniors ages 60+, 2-3 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 16-Oct. 21 at the new pickle ball courts at Collier Park.

Learn the game and strategy while getting exercise. Both singles and doubles are welcome.

Cost is $50 for residents, $60 non-residents.

Peters Township Parks & Recreation will sponsor a senior bus trip to Seven Springs on Sept. 30. Enjoy lunch, Tahitian drums, primitive Samoan fire dance and ancient untamed Hawaiian hula.

Home Instead Senior Care Center, Bethel Park, will sponsor Alzheimer’s Care training workshops at 6:30 p.m., through Sept. 24. Caregivers learn to manage behaviors, encourage engagement and care for themselves.

Active Christian Seniors at Canonsburg U. P. Church will sponsor a three-day trip to Lancaster County Sept. 24-26.

Adult Interest Center, Southminster Presbyterian Church, will be closed through the end of August.

Baptist Homes Society will hold its annual Community Day noon-3 p.m. Sept. 21 at its senior community on Castle Shannon Boulevard. This year’s theme is “Discover Your Community.” Area businesses and service agencies will be on hand with services such as paper shredding by Business Records Management, safety information by Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, and eye glass collection by the Rotary. Elected officials, Mt. Lebanon Police, Mt. Lebanon Library and others will also be on hand.

Free hot dogs and lemonade. Entertainment includes a petting zoo, Cura Hospitality healthy food demos, area dance troupes, sign language demos by Baptist Homes residents and more.

Baptist Homes Society’s Community Day is the kick-off celebration for Active Aging Week.

Seniors for Safe Driving will present a highway safety education program for seniors 55 years of age and older. The class will take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Rec Department of Upper St. Clair.

The programs are certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Successful completion of the program makes senior drivers eligible for a 5 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums, across the board, for a period of three years.

If you have never participated in a senior driving program before, you must attend a two-day class.
