Former stars shine on softball diamond

Old athletes never die. They just retire and play softball.
At least some former scholastic and collegiate stars in this region do. And, many of them continue to succeed. Take the Primanti Bros. team members for example.
Sponsored by the sandwich shop in Mt. Lebanon, they captured the 2013 Upper St. Clair men’s softball league championship. They finished 31-5 overall. The group also had won the title in 2010.
In their earlier existences, many of the players competed on USC’s state championship football team in 1989. Others excelled at both football and baseball at Bethel Park and Seton-La Salle high schools. In fact, one team member, Mark Brucker, played football on Westminster College’s 1994 national championship team.
In addition to Brucker, the team consisted of Rick France, John Leibs, Clarke White, Mike Mascaro, Brent Collela, Mike Steubgen, Dareen Cottrill, Steve Porter, Tim Kane, Pup Mooney, Ed Swiantek, Tim Ripstein, Josh and Luke Pisarchek.
