Scott approves Swallow Hill Road construction contract

By Terry Kish 2 min read

Repairs to Swallow Hill Road in Scott Township are one step closer to reality, as officials awarded the contract for road reconstruction of Swallow Hill Road and Rockfield Road to Golden Triangle Construction, Inc. The action came at the board of commissioners Aug. 27 regular meeting, with all members in favor of the motion, except Commissioner Stacey Altman, who was absent.

The total bid for Swallow Hill reconstruction with concrete and Rockfield Road with asphalt was $1,962,570.50. After the meeting, township engineer Larry Lennon said the new project would not start until PennDOT’s Scrubgrass Road construction was completed. Scrubgrass would be an alternate route for Swallow Hill. Lennon did not have a projected completion date for the Scrubgrass project.

Commissioner Dave Calabria said that he and township manager Denise Fitzgerald met with PennDOT traffic engineers Aug. 26 to discuss the traffic tie ups related to traffic signals at Raceway Plaza, Greentree Road and Collier Avenue. PennDOT is to look at the timing of the three lights to see what can be done to alleviate congestion in the area. Traffic engineers are also planning to investigate a proposed traffic signal at Kane Boulevard and Bower Hill Road.

In other business, the board recognized the retirement of township employees Steve Habovick and Nancy Wells. “They’ve been very good employees for a long time,” commented board president Tom Castello. “We will miss them.”
