Justin David’s third consecutive 3-point field goal from the corner baseline vaulted Mt. Lebanon to victory, 49-46, over Canon-McMillan in a pivotal Section 4-AAAA boys’ basketball game.

David knocked down the long range shot with four seconds to play and the Blue Devils tacked on a free throw with one second to play to seal the victory and clinch a playoff berth.

With the win, Lebo improved to 7-6 in the league and 10-11 overall. The triumph also avenged an earlier 82-77 loss to the Big Macs, who slipped to 5-8 in the section. They too are 10-11 overall.

While Lebo heads to league-leader Upper St. Clair (17-3, 12-1) for the section finale on Friday, Feb. 8, the Big Macs square off against Peters Township, which also remained in the playoff hunt. The Indians are also 5-8 in the league after their loss to Baldwin, 42-41.

David, who finished with a team-high 11 points, scored nine of his points on treys in the final four minutes of play. He gave the Blue Devils two-point leads of 40-38 and 45-43 but in each instance the Big Macs responded with their own long-range shot.

Brett Haney buried a three with 2:21 to play lifting the Big Macs back into the lead, 43-42. With under a minute to play, Sam Bohn cashed in on a triple to give CM a 46-45 edge.

Haney dropped in four treys. He finished with a game-high 20 points. His first seven points thrust CM into a 13-8 lead in the first frame. The Big Macs led at intermission, 22-18, thanks to Haney’s trey and back-to-back 3s by Seth Combs.

David’s brother, Jonny, led a spirited third-quarter comeback by the Blue Devils. In the quarter, Lebo outscored CM, 16-12, to tie the contest at 34.

Jonny David and Tyler Roth supplied nine points each for the Blue Devils. Eddie Jenkins finished in double digits with 10.

Other than Haney, Jake Cadez scored in double figures. He tossed in 10. Bohn followed with eight markers.
