C-M names assistant superintendent
Canon-McMillan School Board voted unanimously to appoint Scott Chambers as the district’s new assistant superintendent.
Currently the principal of Cecil Intermediate School, Chambers will assume his new role with the district at an annual salary of $117,000. His contract will run through June 30, 2016. The board voted 8-0 in favor of the motion. Board member Paul Scarmazzi was absent.
The board also hired Eric Schrader as an elementary music teacher and assistant band director effective Feb. 4 at a salary of $41,400. He will also serve as assistant band director at the high school. The board voted 7-1 with board member Maureen Helinski casting the lone no vote.
Some parents objected to Schrader’s hiring and called on the board to instead hire Deanna Alchier, who is currently an elementary music teacher with the district.
Big Mac Band Boosters president Michelle Kaufman wrote in an email that many parents objected to the hiring process.
