SF beefs up security measures
Parents and other folks visiting any building in the South Fayette School District will now be required to show photo identification to enter the buildings. At a Feb. 26 meeting of the South Fayette Board of School Directors, the board voted unanimously to enter into an agreement with Raptorware, a visitor management software provider. Board members Frank Morelli and William Sray were absent.
The initial start-up cost for the service, which will be installed in every school building and the pupil personnel and administrative offices, is $9,010. The annual cost for the software access fee will be $2,592.
Once the new system is installed, anyone entering any building on campus will have to show either a driver’s license or state-issued ID. The ID will then be scanned into the Raptorware system and a visitor’s pass will be printed automatically. The system scans for any criminal record or other warnings such as protection from abuse orders.
Superintendent Dr. Bille Rondinelli said the money for the system is not budgeted for this year and will be taken from the general fund. “It’s something we feel strongly about,” Rondinelli said about the safety of students in the district.
In other business at the meeting, the board voted 6-1 to approve a change order to install laser cut floor tiles in the three STEAM rooms at the new intermediate school building. The cost of the custom laser cut flooring totals about $28,000. Board member Todd Petrillo voted against the custom flooring.
Board member Alan Vezzi, who made the motion in favor of the laser cut flooring, said he thought it was worth doing the custom flooring since “we’ve been holding the line on construction costs” and the bids on the furniture came in lower than projected. The board also approved a $2,100 change order to add floor-to-ceiling marker boards in each of the STEAM rooms.
The board voted in favor of deleting a wall covering in the intermediate school library storytelling area at a savings of $3,293.
The board has scheduled a meeting to go over information about the new intermediate school. The meeting is open to the public for parents and residents and will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. March 12 in the high school Conference Center.
