Hey dude, it’s a beach party
Even with near-freezing temperatures outside, the Mt. Lebanon Library proved to be the next best thing to the beach Jan. 6.
As part of the library’s Sunday Funday series this winter, kids were treated to a beach party.
Although many of the kids did not dress in the recommended shorts, Hawaiian shirts and sandals and instead opted for snow boots and sweaters, a good time was had by all.
Elizabeth Schwertfuehrer, children’s librarian, lead the group of more than a dozen kids in summery renditions of songs like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and instead of “The Itsy, Bitsy Spider,” kids sang “The Itchy Pinchy Crabby.” Schwertfuehrer also read beach-themed books like “All You Need for a Beach” and “Beach Day.”
The kids then had the chance to make summery crafts including flowery necklaces, crabs and suns and then munched on beach-approved snacks such as pretzels and lemonade.
The Sunday Funday at Mt. Lebanon Library is an ongoing series geared toward children. Most of the events are in the afternoon, but Schwertfuehrer recommends checking the library’s children’s website, www.mtlebanonlibrary.org/kids for the most up-to-date schedule with times. Schedules also are available at the library.
