Scott remind residents of snow ordinance requirements
While Mother Nature gave western Pennsylvania a break from winter weather recently, it’s fairly certain that there will be more snow before spring appears.
Scott commissioner Pat Caruso reminded residents that they have 24 hours after a snow event to remove snow from sidewalks. She also stated that when shoveling, residents can’t throw snow into the street.
Commissioner Bill Wells said he noticed that cleaning sidewalks on Caruthers Avenue was especially difficult, as the sidewalks were narrow and there was no place to put snow. Commissioner Eileen Meyers said that even if residents can’t clean the entire sidewalk, they should at least clear a portion of the sidewalk so people can walk.
Meyers said that she thought that the current township ordinance regarding snow removal needed to be enforced more during snow events.
Scott’s public works director Randy Lubin said that when public works employees encounter a resident or business not cleaning their sidewalk, they politely inform the person about the ordinance on snow removal. They also speak to residents who they see shoveling snow onto the street and tell them not to do this.
In other business, Caruso requested placing an advisory speed limit of 15 miles per hour on Blue Jay Drive. Caruso said residents living near the crest of the hill have had several near accidents when backing out of their driveway. The board is expected to vote on the matter at its Jan. 22 voting meeting.
