Memorial set for Kling
A memorial service for David Kling will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Ave. Before the service, the family will welcome friends at 11 a.m. at the church.
Kling, who died Dec. 27, made many friends during his 65 years of life, many of which were spent at his beloved Keystone Oaks High School.
A 1965 KO graduate, Kling returned to his alma mater after a standout wrestling career at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. An All-American in 1968, he finished fifth in the NCAA at 130 pounds.
For more than 30 years, Kling served as a social studies teacher while coaching wrestling, football, track and golf.
While wrestling coach for the Golden Eagles, he compiled a 381-152-2 record. Ranked fourth in WPIAL history for wrestling wins, Kling was named Coach of the Year in 1986.
He was inducted into the Southwestern Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Western Chapter in 2006. A year later, he entered the IUP Athletic Hall of Fame for wrestling.
Born Oct. 10, 1947, the son of the late Lynn W. Kling, Sr. and Helen King, had been married for 44 years to his wife, Lynn Ann. They had two children, Robert David and Jayme Lynn.
Kling is also survived by three grandchildren, Raymond, David, Bernadette and Zachary, a brother, Lynn W. Kling, Jr.; a niece, Sonya Bell, as well as nephews, Douglas Kling and Robert K. Bell.
