Assignments set for local officials

State representatives serving Washington County recently announced their committee assignments for the 2013-14 legislative session.
The legislators included Rep. Jesse White, D-Cecil; Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-Canonsburg; and Rep. Rick Saccone, R-Elizabeth.
White was appointed to serve on the House Judiciary Committee, on which he was appointed subcommittee chairman on family law for a second consecutive session. He also will serve on the Consumer Affairs and Game and Fisheries committees.
Neuman is the only second-term legislator to be appointed to the Rules Committee. He will also serve as Democratic secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs committees, and will serve as a member of the Consumer Affairs, Judiciary and Labor and Industry committees.
Lone Republican Rep. Rick Saccone has been appointed to the Judiciary, State Government, Urban Affairs, Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees.
There are 28 standing committees in the state House of Representatives. The committee system allows legislators to assess and amend legislation and evaluate important issues before bringing bills to the full House for a vote.
