Football group to build shed in Peterswood Park

2 min read

The Junior Football Association in Peters Township will build a 10-foot by 24-foot storage shed at Hofbauer Field in Peterswood Park at a cost of $24,000 that, when finished, will be turned over to the township for ownership and maintenance. Council approved the agreement during a meeting Jan. 28.

The two-story building was previously approved by the township’s Parks and Recreation Board.

Council tabled a request by St. Benedict the Abbot Church for multiple signs for the upcoming multi-week fish fry. Council would like additional information on where the signs will be placed.

In other action, council:

• Heard comments from attorney James Haines representing Michael Harbison regarding a sign for Arlecchino restaurant that is placed off-site from the Camp Lane restaurant. Haines contends the owners of Arlecchino have not acted in good faith in attempting to work out an agreement on leasing the sign space. Arlecchino is represented by Ryan Wotus and the Pittsburgh law firm of Goldberg, Kamin and Garvin. Council told the attorneys attempts should be made to resolve the issue without involving the municipality.

• Authorized Campbell Insurance to become the township’s new insurance carrier. Insurance rates will increase about 28 percent. The township’s previous carrier, Gallagher Insurance, announced it would no longer represent the township.

• The annual road tour for township officials only will be held March 3.

• Approved a consent agenda of tax exonerations, destruction of records and the police pension plan.

• Heard two residents speak of their interest in moving the township from one state Senatorial district represented by state Sen. Matt Smith, D-Mt. Lebanon, into another district represented by state Rep. Tim Solobay, D-Canonsburg. Residents said they would prefer being in the district associated with Washington County. In the current district, the 37th Senatorial District, Peters Township is the only municipality from Washington County.
