Bethel Park School Board members Jan. 22 approved a $395,000 contract with Hayes Design Group Architects to perform construction documents, bidding and construction administrative phase services for the Neil Armstrong Middle School renovation project.
The renovations, which will focus primarily on the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, are being paid for by funds which remain from the high school construction project, said Matthew Howard, finance director.
The township is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.
Applications may be obtained between 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday at the police department, 3599 Millers Run Road, and must be submitted no later than 3 p.m. Feb. 15.
Canon-McMillan High School and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency are joining to provide a free application for federal student aid completion session for Canon-McMillan parents and students from noon to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in the high school library.
Parents will be able to complete their FAFSA with assistance from the experts in financial aid.

The Washington County Community Center, 216 Taylor Drive, Canonsburg, will hold beginner Tai Chi classes with Dorothy Tecklenberg from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per class.

Winterfest will return from noon-3 p.m. Feb. 23 Uptown with more than a dozen participating restaurants. There will be a chili competition between Mt. Lebanon police and fire departments, outdoor games, music and beer will be available for purchase for those over the age of 21. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate.
Tickets are available online or at the customer service center in the municipal building weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The next electronics recycling event will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the township parking lot near Clair’s Kennel.
Electronics are no longer permitted to be set at the curb for garbage collection.
Collected will be CD players, cell phones, computers, copiers, fax machines, printers, radios, scanners, VCRs, telephones and televisions.
Fluorescent and CFL bulbs will be accepted with a $1 charge per bulb.
