Girls basketball round-up

Chartiers Valley prepared for its Jan. 31 showdown with Mt. Lebanon by picking up two victories in Section 4-AAAA girls’ basketball play.

The Lady Colts dispatched Canon-McMillan, 58-29, and Peters Township, 57-31, to improve to 8-2 in the division and 14-4 overall.

The Lady Colts trail the Lebo ladies, whom they host at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, and Bethel Park in the league standings. BP and Lebo both have one loss in the section. CV also travels to BP Feb. 4.

Against the Lady Macs, Mariah Wells led with 16 while Kassidy O’Keefe provided 12 tallies and Jenna Devinney pitched in 11 points.

Against the Lady Indians, Wells (15), O’Keefe (15) and Devinney (10) again paced CV. Madison Kerr was tops for PT with 16 markers.

One game after upsetting Upper St. Clair, 58-54, Baldwin succumbed to Canon-Mac, 52-37.

Danielle Parker pumped in 16 points for the Lady Macs followed by 13 tallies from Brittany Hutchins and Olivia Lorusso.

In the loss to the Highlanders, Constance Raftis (16) and Jordan Serio (12) finished in double digits for the Panthers.

USC also dropped a 40-37 decision to North Allegheny. Serio had 11 points.

In overtime, South Fayette edged Keystone Oaks, 43-39.

Caitlin McLuckie and Shannon Gillespie provided 15 and 12 points to lead the Lions while Maryssa Agurs fired in 26 for the Golden Eagles.

KO also topped Brashear in a non-section game, 77-17.

Lexy Mecuri led the Golden Eagles with 20 tallies while Maryssa and Mariah Agurs finished with 17 and 12.

In Section 4-AA, Seton-La Salle continued to roll. The Rebels defeated Fort Cherry, 72-31.

In double figures were: Natalie Piaggesi (16), Naje Gibson (13), Angela Heintz (12) and Katherine Hart (10).

Despite 21 points from Ashley Balzer, Chartiers-Houston dropped a 55-54 decision to Steel Valley, Tori Foster and Addy Knetzer both fired in 10 points each in the losing effort.

The Bucs also lost to Bishop Canevin, 63-40.

While Amanda Balzer and Addy Knetzer led CH with 13 and 10 points, Erin Waskowiak topped all scorers with 17. Also for the Crusaders, Carly Forse tossed in 15 and Gina Vallercorsa followed with 11 markers.
