The 13th Annual Edible Flowers Food Fest takes place at 7 p.m. July 18 at the Buffalo Inn, South Park. Reservations are required. Cost is $20 per guest, cash or check at the door only, and all proceeds will benefit Allegheny County Parks.
Co-sponsored by the Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County, 2013’s dishes feature roses and lavender. The menu will include perennial favorites, many of which are gluten-free. To make reservations, call 412-473-2540 or email sew19@psu.edu.
To benefit the millions of children who depend on Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Miller’s Ace Hardware has dedicated the month of July to raising money for CMNH through their Ace Cares for Kids campaign. Miller’s Ace Hardware will accept donations at both locations (McMurray & Bethel Park), 100 percent of which will be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, benefiting local children. Miller’s Ace Hardware will match 100 percent of donations made by customers. Customers can also attend a hot dog sale on July 20 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Customers can purchase a hot dog and water for $1 or chicken sandwich and water for $3, all of which will go to CHP. Also on July 20 and 21, customers can donate $5 to CHP and receive a five gallon blue CMN bucket. They will get 20 percent off anything they can fit into the bucket, and be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a $100 Ace gift card.
On July 26, Friends of the Montour Trail in Peters Township will host a Twilight Trail Walk along Arrowhead Trail. There will be two starting locations – Farmhouse Coffee/My Big Fat Greek Gyro and St. Petersburg Center, both located on Valley Brook Road. Donation is $7 and participants will walk along the luminaria-lit trail and be entered in a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses. Registration takes place at the event only, and proceeds benefit the maintenance and expansion of the Montour Trail in Peters. For more information, visit www.montourtrail.org.
The Fifth Annual Pasta Too Rev ‘Em Up for Kids Car Cruise takes place rain or shine at the South Park Fairgrounds 11 a.m.-6 p.m. July 28. The event benefits Bethel Park recreational sports groups and is open to all special interest vehicles, including classic cars, exotic and super cars, trucks and motorcycles.
The first 400 vehicles will receive dash plaques. Attendees can register their cars for a special 50/50 gold ticket chance worth $200 to the winning ticket number.
Johnny Angel and the Halos will perform hits from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Along with music and prizes, there will also be merchandise vendors, family fun, a kids zone, food vendors and show T-shirts, along with emergency response vehicles on display. Admission is $5 per vehicle or adult spectator, while children under 17 are free.

The ToonSeum’s 2013 edition of Illustration Ale, a robust Belgian-style beer brewed by Pittsburgh’s East End Brewing Company, is a 1,500 bottle limited-edition Belgian specialty ale created as a fundraiser for the ToonSeum, and a portion of the proceeds from sales directly benefit the cartoon museum. Six local Pittsburgh artists designed the labels for the series.
A special tasting will mark the unveiling of the 2013 Illustration Ale at the ToonSeum at 7 p.m. Aug. 3. Meet past and present label artists, receive autographs and enjoy the current exhibit, “65 Years of Legends: Six Decades of the Reuben Awards.”
Tickets to Illustration Ale are $25 and include one free bottle of Illustration Ale from the artist of their choosing.

Tickets are currently on sale for Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s fourth annual Beer Garden Bash fundraiser, 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 24. The event, sponsored by Friends of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library, will feature more than a dozen craft beers for sampling, a gourmet picnic meal and music from steel drum artist Dan Meunier, creating a Caribbean vibe. Tickets will be available at the library’s front desk for $30 each. No tickets will be available at the door on the night of the event. 4-H County Council will be collection items for Operation Christmas Child and Operation Support Our Troops through Sept. 2 at the Penn State University Extension Office in Washington and during the Washington County Agricultural Fair, Aug. 10-17 in the 4-H Junior Building. Items needed for Operation Support Our Troops include: individual cold drink mix packets, granola bars, sunscreen, vitamins, insect repellent and anti-itch cream. For Operation Christmas Child, items accepted include: dolls, stuffed animals, small cars, school supplies, hygiene items and clothing. The Dicey Chicks, a Pittsburgh-based Bunco group, will host its fourth biennial Roll for a Reason Bunco fundraiser on Oct. 19 in the Fellowship Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair. Proceeds benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Roll for a Reason consists of three games of Bunco, separated by 20-minute intermissions for players to enjoy the dessert bar and participate in the basket raffle. For participants who have never played Bunco, the rules will be reviewed. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Play begins at 1:30 p.m. Registration is $20 per person before Oct. 5, and $30 per person after Oct. 5.
