Ligonier Valley Writers has two scholarships available to its prestigious summer writing conference on July 27 at Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood. Each scholarship is valued at $115. It includes the seminars and workshops all day Saturday, as well as the Thoburn Lecture and a catered lunch where faculty members will read from their work.
LVWC Scholarship for Adults: The only criteria for the LVWC Scholarship are writing talent and financial need. Regarding need, let your conscience be your guide. Regarding writing ability, we ask that you submit a sample of your writing. Writers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to apply.
If you want to hone your craft with the help of published experts in a supportive atmosphere at the LVW Conference, email the following to jgallagher@LVWonline.org:

Label your sample with the genre that you think best fits it: literary fiction, genre fiction (specify genre), creative nonfiction (specify feature article, memoir, essay, etc.), or poetry. Your sample does not have to be in a genre that’s being covered at the 2013 conference.
• A cover letter describing your writing goal(s).
In addition, LVW also invites students to apply for the Tina Thoburn Memorial Scholarship for teens, which honors a founder of the LVW Conference. It is open to all accredited students in Pennsylvania who are entering their senior year or have just graduated from high school. Email the following:
