USC police chief to retire after 45 years
Upper St. Clair Township Commissioners on June 3 honored the township’s police chief, who is retiring June 24 after 45 years with the force.
Ronald J. Pardini, 75, started in the township police as a patrolman in Jan. 1969, according to a proclamation read at the meeting by Commission President Robert Orchowski.
He was promoted to sergeant, lieutenant and deputy chief of police before becoming the chief in Jan. 1986, Orchowski said.
“Chief Pardini’s efforts have contributed significantly to the growth and overall quality of life in the township, resulting in one of the safest communities not only in Allegheny County, but the entire commonwealth.”
Pardini said he wanted to “thank township manager (Matthew Serakowski) for his style of leadership” that allowed Pardini to administer the police department as he felt necessary.
“Your co-workers become your best friends,” he said.
Pardini said he will miss “talking politics with the girls” in the township offices.
He said “I’m gonna miss that. It’s going to take quite a while to get used to.”
In other business June 3, commissioners honored Kirk Richard Egeland for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Egeland, a junior at Upper St. Clair High School, completed a landscaping project at his church, Beverly Heights Church in Mt. Lebanon. He supervised 114 hours of work by 25 volunteers.
